HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 4993RESOLUTION NO. 4993 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 4693 RELATING TO JOB CLASSIFICATIONS AND COMPENSATION IN THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS. The City Council of the City of Azusa does resolve as follows: SECTION 1. That part of Exhibit A attached to Resolution No. 4693, adopted July 20, 1964, as amended, relating to Fire Department is hereby amended by deleting therefrom: "1 Secretary -Stenographer **(16) 14" and by adding thereto: "1 Secretary -Dispatcher 16" SECTION 2. Exhibit C attached to said Resolution No. 4693 is hereby amended by the addition thereto of the job classification schedule for Secretary -Dispatcher which is attached hereto and made a part hereof. SECTION 3, Exhibit C attached to said Resolution No. 4693 is hereby amended by the substitution of those job classification schedules attached hereto for Police Lieutenant and Police Sergeant in place of the respective job classification schedules of the same titles presently included in said Exhibit,C. SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution. AYES: Councilmen: Rubio, Cooney, Sole m, McLees, Memmesheimer NOES: Councilmen: None ABSENT: Councilmen: None I Job Summary 1M 0 0 E-6 SECRETARY -DISPATCHER Under direction, takes difficult and varied dictation and accurately transcribes it on a typewriter; performs a wide variety of difficult typing and clerical work; takes verbatim reports; and does related work as required; receives and transmits routine and emergency tele- phone and voice radio messages which may require the dispatching of departmental equipment. Representative Duties Answers correspondence independently; arranges committee meetings, takes dictation and accurately transcribes it on the typewriter; types minutes, orders, reports, memoranda, records, documents, briefs, payrolls and sta- tistical data; records and writes minutes of meetings; may direct and check the work of several clerical employees; maintains files of corres- pondence, records and other documents; interviews visitors, gives out information on a variety of problems and refers visitors to proper offi- cials; receives complaints and takes steps to see that they are adjusted; coordinates voluntary collection'drives and prepares an agenda; exervises discretion in arranging appointments and itineraries for officials; takes verbatim statements of witnesses and suspects; issues complaints and sub- poenas; opens mail and prepares replies to routine inquiries; compilos, tabulates and prepares reports of financial and statistical data; main- tains control files of matters in progress and expedites their completion; prepares reports by finding, assembling, and summarizing information and data; trains employees and explains departmental policies to them; orders and issues supplies and maintains inventory controls; screens applicants and requests for appointments. Receives incoming telephone and voice radio calls for the Eire Department; if an emergency call, secures and records information as to exact location and uses voice radio to transmit information to necessary personnel and equipment in accordance with pre -determined plans and notifies supervisor on duty or makes radio contact with crew on assignment; keeps department officials informed of situations and dispatches additional equipment when so advised; logs all departmental activities; compiles data and prepares reports of emergencies reported, equipment dispatched, and/or disposition of emergencies;,gives out a variety of information related to departmental activities, to the public. Organizational Relationships Secretary -Dispatcher is an experienced -level class in the secretarial series found in several departments. An employee in this class reports to the department or division head or similar higher-level position and may supervise lower -level secretarial or clerical employees.
