HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - June 4, 1934 - CC (2)CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. JUNE 4, 1934. 7:30 P.M. The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Mione, Arnold, Meier, Chester, Morden, City- Attorney and City Clerk. The minutes of the last regular meet- ing of May 21st and the adjourned meeting of May 28, 1934, were read and approved as read. Lee V. Rhodes offered an application for a vacation beginning July 1st to July 15, 1934. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Arnold that this request be referred to the Chief of Police, with power to act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Meier, Chester, Morden. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mr. C. C. Carpenter offered his resig- nation as a member of the Library Board. Moved by Councilman Meier, seconded by Councilman Chester and duly carried thgt this resignation be accepted and placed on file. A Resolution passed by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors appropriating $522.29 for the improvement of Azusa Avenue, was read. Moved by Councilman Meier, seconded by Councilman Chester and duly carried that same be accepted and placed on,file. Councilman Meier offered an Ordinance entitled: 5 L. V. Rhodes application referred to Chief of Police. C. C. Carpenter's resignation accepted. Resolution adopted by Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors ordered placed on file. AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, REGULATING THE SALE ORDINANCE NO. 312 AND DISCHARGE OF FIREWORKS AND THE ISSUANCE ADOPTED. OF PERMITS THEREFORE. to be placed upon its second reading. The title of this Ordinance was then read. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Meier that the further read- ing of this Ordinance be waived. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Malone that this Ordinance be ' adopted as read and numbered Ordinance No. 312. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Meier, Chester, Morden. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Arnold that Mr. P. L. Davis be paid $15.00 per month for cultivating and irrigating the City grove. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Meier, Chester, Morden. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mayor Morden made the following appointments on the Azusa Public Library Board: Mrs. Dorothy Chester to fill the unexpired term of C. C. Carpenter, beg,nning June 4, 1934 to June 30; 193 Mr. J. C. Muehe to serve a three year term beginning July 1, 1934 to June 30, 1937. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Malone that the members of the City Council approve the appointments made by Mayor Morden. Carried by the following vote of the Council: I, Matter of check pro- tector referred to Audit & Finance Committee P. L. Davis to be paid $15.00 per month for care of City grove. Mrs. Chester and Mr. Muehe appointed members of Library Board. Ayes: Councilmen: Mal one, Arnold, Meier, Morden., Councilman Chester not voting. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Malone and duly carried that the City Clerk be instructed to write Assistant Chief Davis and Mr. Turner of the Los Angeles County Forestry Department, thanking them for the courtesy extended the City of Azusa in loaning fire fighting equip- ment while the wheels and tires were being changed on the Seagrave. Councilman Meier offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA ENGAGING CERTAIN SPECIAL SERVICES OF THE LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA MUNICIPALITIES AND PRO- VIDING FOR PAYMENT THEREFOR. Moved by Councilman Meier, seconded by Councilman A;nold that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1408. Carriedby the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Meier, Chester, Morden. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mr. w, D. Singleton addressed the Council regarding the hanging of signs. Moved and carried that the matter be referred to the City Attorney. City Clerk instructed to write Chief Davis. RESOLUTION NO. 1408.
