HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 50420 0 RESOLUTION NO. 5042 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, EXTENDING AN INVITATION TO THE CITY OF ZACATECAS, ZACATECAS, MEXICO, TO BECOME A SISTER CITY IN THE PEOPLE -TO -PEOPLE PROGRAM AND INVITING THE PEOPLE OF ZACATECAS TO PARTICIPATE IN SAID PROGRAM WHEREAS, the "People -to -People Program" was established by the President of the United States at the White House in 1956 to establish greater friendship and understanding between the peoples of the United States and other nations through the medium of direct personal contact, and WHEREAS, to implement this program Azusa and other cities in the United States have been requested by the American Municipal Association to affiliate with a city abroad of similar characteristics and mutual interest, and WHEREAS, Azusa through its Council does recognize and endorse this program with the hope that it will lead to a lasting friendship between the people of Azusa and Zacatecas. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Azusa as follows: Section 1. That this Council on behalf of the people of Azusa hereby extends an invitation to the Government and people of the City of Zacatecas to participate with Azusa as its Sister City in the "People -to -People Program" for the purpose of creating goodwill and understanding between the people of our two great nations. Section 2. That Mayor Louis G. Memmesheimer is hereby authorized to act as official representative of Azusa to carry out this program. Section 3. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and transmit certified copies thereof to the Mayor and Council of the City of Zacatecas, the American Municipal Association, the United States Department of State, and the Embassy of Mexico. ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 16th day of May, 1966.
