HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 5027RESOLUTION NO. 5027 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 4693 BY CHANGING THE CLASSIFICATION SCHEDULES FOR CASHIER CLERK, LINEMAN, METER READER -MAINTENANCE MAN, AND RECREATION DIRECTOR. The City Council of the City of Azusa does resolve as follows: SECTION 1. The classification schedules attached to Resolu- tion No. 4693, adopted July 20, 1964, as amended, are hereby amended by substituting the classification schedules for cashier clerk, lineman, meter reader -maintenance man and recreation director, which are attached hereto and made a part hereof, in place and stead Of the classification schedules for cashier clerk, lineman, meter reader -maintenance man and recreation director, respectively, as now attached to said resolution. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution. Adopted and approved this 2nd day of May 1966. Organizational Relationships Cashier Clerk is the entering level class in the Utilities Commercial Office. An employee in this class reports to the Utilities Business Manager or the Senior Account Clerk. 0 0 F-5 CASHIER CLERK QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE Training and Experience Minimum Requirements: High School graduation including or supplemented by courses in typing and the operation of office machines and six months of office clerical experience, in - Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of.the operation of basic office machines;.knowledge of general office procedures; ability to make arithmetical cal- culations rapidly and accurately; ability to make.change; ability to keep simple records; ability to type 25 words per minute;abil- ity to learn the operation of a utilities commercial office; ability to meet the public, to understand -their questions and to make satisfactory explanations. Skills Skill in typing from clear copy at a speed of not less than 25 words per minute. F-9 �M Job Summary Under supervision, does skilled electrical work in the const ction, maintenance and repair of overhead elec- trical transmission, distribution and street lighting systems; and does related work as required. Representative Duties Works with high tension lines; installs, maintains and repairs overhead lines; does broable shooting; replaces, removes or repairs overhead crossarms; strings anis taps overhead lines; installs insulatore; hangs and connects transformers; cleans and repairs^conductors; installs street lights; removes old poles and fixtures; transfers and strings energized primary lights; transfers energized lines to larger transformers; -makes emergency repairs on primary and secondary wires and transformers;_may super- vise and train those learning.the lineman trade.; may do maintenance work in sub -stations,; may trim trees to pro- tect'electrical equipment; :may, do.underground cable work; may stand a regular scheduled stand-by watch. Organizational Relationships. Lineman is the skilled level class,of electrical installa- tion and maintenance workers. An employee of this class is supervised by an Electric Line Foreman and works with the assistance of one or more Lineman Helpers. F-9 LINEMAN QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE Training and Experience minimum Requirements: Graduation from high school and recognized'status'as a journeyman lineman, with one year of linemanexperience. 'Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of the methods; materials and techniques of the lineman trade; knowledge of the installation, opera- tion and maintenance of overhead and underground trans- mission wires; knowledge of the hazards and safety mea- sures of the trade; ability to climb poles and work at heights; ability to maintain harmonious relations with other employees or to work alone and to use independent judgement and initiative; ability to follow oral and written directions. License Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License from the State of California. LI L F-19 Job Summary METER READER - MAINT NANCE MAN Under supervision, reads electric and urater meters; computes consumptions; observes and reports defects; assists in the maintenance and construction of water lines and related ap- purtenances; arid- does related work Ias required. Representative Duties Working alone, on an assigned route; reads consumers' water and electric meters; subtracts previous reading to determine consumption; notes readings which appear low or high and re- ports need for testing; notes the need for repairs when mal- functioning is observed; re -checks entries in meter book; hears and reports consumer.complaints; occasionally drives a pick-up truck; replaces broken meter boxes and lids; assists in the maintenance and construction of water lines and ser- vices byusing pneumatic.and'hand tools; assists in laying and installing pipe; assists in repairing gate valves and hydrants; may relieve Consumers' Serviceman when assigned. Organizational Relationships Meter Reader Maintenance Man is a semi -skilled position. Reporting to the Utilities Business Manager, an employee in the class may be assigned to the Water General Foreman for installation and repair duties. E 9 F-19 QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE Training and Experience METER READER MAINTENANCE MAN Minimum Requirements: Completion of the twelfth grade or eguiva lent, and six months of experience in reading water, electric or gas meters, or other experience involvin¢ similar duties and re - Knowledge and Abilities Ability to read gauges and record.figures accurately; ability to make simple calculations rapidly and accurately; ability to win the confidence of the public, to understand their questions and complaints and to provide satisfactory answers; ability to under- stand and carry out oral and written directions; mechanical apti- tude; knowledge of the tools, methods and materials used in in- stalling water lines and services and in repairing meters and valves; physical fitness; ability to get along well with others. Representative Duties Develops and directs a recreational program of activities and services for children, youths and adults; develops and super- vises a swimming program; meets with interested groups and individuals to discuss recreation programs and facilities and needed improvements; recruits, trains, and directs a staff of recreation leaders and specialists; manages special events; schedules use of facilities; organizes and participates in a public relations and public information program; assists in planning and developing new parks, playgrounds and facilities; supervises recreation areas to insure proper and safe use of facilities and equipment; prepares a departmental budget. Organizational Relationships Recreation Director is a one -position class and heads the Rec- reation Department. An employee of this class supervises a Stenographer Clerk and directs the activities of a Recreation Activities Supervisor. In addition, he directs the activities of all the seasonal or part-time personnel in the Recreation Department, averaging some 60 to 75 employees peryear. The and Park Commission and assists_ them in policy recommendations_. Fe,reports administratively to the Administrative Officer and through him -to the City Council. The Recreation Department has program responsibilities for an area 1_/3 larger than the city itself ie.g. the School District which has approximately 10 square miles and approximately _ 40,000 residents,) Programa are conducted on City.
