HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 5190RESOLUTION NO. 5190 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA RECOMMENDING THE USE OF EXISTING RAILROAD RIGHTS OF WAY FOR A RAPID TRANSIT SYSTEM. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Azusa is, and has been, greatly concerned over the increasing vehicular congestion on all public streets and highways; and WHEREAS, the Southern is faced with a serious problem sufficient right of way for the transit express system; and California Rapid Transit District concerning the acquisition of installation of a county -wide rapid WHEREAS, the existing railroad rights of way criss-cross not only Los Angeles County, but other Southern California counties, with the effect that approximately 560 miles of single and double tracks conceivably could be used for purposes other than the present railroad activities; and WHEREAS, the City Council feels that by independent, far- sighted planning and execution, a system of rail express commuter trains could be designed and operated over the existing railroad rights of way to the advantage of all Metropolitan area residents; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: That the City Councils in the San Gabriel Valley, the Santa Fe, Union Pacific, and Southern Pacific Railroads, and the surface transportation organizations work in concert to design and put into operation a rapid transit system encompassing the ideas expressed in this resolution; and, be it further resolved that this matter be brought to the attention of the Public Utilities Commission and to state, county and regional offices and departments, so that their understanding and cooperation may be obtained in the planning and execution of this program. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and cause copies thereof to be transmitted to the Public Utilities Commission and to said state, county and regional offices and departments. Adopted and approved this 6th day of March, 1967.
