RESOLUTION NO. 5245
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 4693 BY CHANGING
THE CLASSIFICATION SCHEDULE FOR LINEMAN.
The City Council of the City of Azusa does resolve as
follows:
SECTION 1. The classification schedules attached to
Resolution No. 4693, adopted July 20, 1964, as amended, are hereby
amended by substituting the classification schedule for Lineman
which is attached hereto and make a part hereof, in place and
stead of the classification schedule for Lineman as now attached
to said resolution.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this resolution.

Job Summary

Under supervision, does skilled electrical work in the construction,
maintenance and repair of overhead electrical transmission, distri-
bution and street lighting systems; and does related work as required.
Representative Duties
Works with high tension lines; installs, maintains and repairs over-
head lines; does trouble shooting; replaces, removes or repairs overhead
crossarms; strings and taps overhead lines; installs insulators; hangs
and connects transformers; cleans and repairs conductors; installs street
lights; removes old poles and fixtures; transfers and strings energized
primary lights; transfers energized lines to larger transformers; makes
emergency repairs on primary and secondary wires and transformers; may
supervise and train those learning the lineman trade; may do maintenance
work in sub -stations; may trim trees to protect electrical equipment;
may do underground cable work; may stand a regular scheduled stand-by
watch.
Organizational Relationships
Lineman is the skilled level class of electrical installation and
maintenance workers. An employee of this class is supervised by an
Electric Line Foreman and works with the assistance of one or more
Lineman Helpers.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Training and Experience
Minimum Requirements: Graduation from high school and recognized
status as a journeyman lineman or, in lieu of high school one of the
following:
G.E.D. Certificate with 3 years experience at journeyman level
3 years of high school with 4 years journeyman experience
2 years of high school with 6 years journeyman experience
1 year high school with 8 years journeyman experience
no high school requires a minimi,m of 10 years journeyman experience
To be eligible for advancement, (if less than required schooling) it
would be necessary to complete the required schooling in order to
qualify for the examination.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques of the lineman
trade; knowledge of the installation, operation and maintenance of
overhead and underground transmission wires; knowledge of the hazards
and safety measures of the trade; ability to climb poles and work at
heights; ability to maintain harmonious relations with other employees
or to work alone and to use independent judgement and initiative;
ability to follow oral and written directions.
License
Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License from the State
of California.
