A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF AZUSA RELATING TO OPPOSITION TO THE PRO-
POSED CONSOLIDATION OF THE MUNICIPAL AND
JUSTICE COURTS IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY
WHEREAS, the trial of municipal court cases should be
kept as close as possible to the people and the areas where such
cases originate; and
WHEREAS, the consolidation of the municipal courts would
undoubtedly cost time and money for all parties concerned in such
cases, including litigants, witnesses, jurors, lawyers, prosecutors,
police and other persons involved; and
WHEREAS, the remoteness of consolidated courts from
local areas would minimize the local review of a judge's performance
during an election period; and
WHEREAS, the economies claimed for court consolidation
are rather specious, particularly in view of the real inconvenience
and expenses created for witnesses, jurors, attorneys, police, and
others by such cpurt consolidation; and
WHEREAS, administrative improvements can be achieved in
our present court system without resorting to court consolidation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF AZUSA that this City opposes consolidation of municipal
courts in Los Angeles County and that copies of such resolutions be
transmitted to the respective representatives in the State Assembly
and State Senate.
The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
resolution.
ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 18th day of March, 1968.
