HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 5367RESOLUTION NO. 5367 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA RELATING TO OPPOSITION TO THE PRO- POSED CONSOLIDATION OF THE MUNICIPAL AND JUSTICE COURTS IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY WHEREAS, the trial of municipal court cases should be kept as close as possible to the people and the areas where such cases originate; and WHEREAS, the consolidation of the municipal courts would undoubtedly cost time and money for all parties concerned in such cases, including litigants, witnesses, jurors, lawyers, prosecutors, police and other persons involved; and WHEREAS, the remoteness of consolidated courts from local areas would minimize the local review of a judge's performance during an election period; and WHEREAS, the economies claimed for court consolidation are rather specious, particularly in view of the real inconvenience and expenses created for witnesses, jurors, attorneys, police, and others by such cpurt consolidation; and WHEREAS, administrative improvements can be achieved in our present court system without resorting to court consolidation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA that this City opposes consolidation of municipal courts in Los Angeles County and that copies of such resolutions be transmitted to the respective representatives in the State Assembly and State Senate. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution. ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 18th day of March, 1968. Mayor I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular meeting thereof held on the 18th day of March, 1968, by the following vote of the Council: AYES: Councilmen: Rubio, Calvert, Solem, McLees, Cooney NOES: Councilmen: None ABSENT: Councilmen: None City Clerk
