HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 5480.0 • RESOLUTION NO. 5460 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA,EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE PASSAGE OF PROPOSITION B RELATING TO NEW JUVENILE DETENTION FACILITIES FOR THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES. WHEREAS, the dire need for new juve facilities and the expansion of existing become increasingly evident as juvenile the County have increased 7.4 percent in and the average juvenile hall population creasing at the rate of 5.1 percent; and rile detention facilities has arrests within the past year, has been in - WHEREAS, the delinquent children placed in County Probation facilities come from throughout the County of Los Angeles, and the provision of suitable facilities for these minors is of vital concern to all of the residents of the county; and WHEREAS, under State law, continued detention of minors is mandatory when it is a matter of immediate and urgent necessity for the protection of the person or property of another; and WHEREAS, State law also provides authority to detain a juvenile who has violated the orders of the Juvenile Court, or who is likely to flee the juris- diction of the Court; and WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, recognizing the immediate and future needs of the com- munity, has unanimously approved the inclusion of a bond issue for juvenile facilities on the ballot for the November general election to be known as Proposition B: NOW, THEREFORE the City Council of the City of Azusa does hereby indicate its support of Proposition B -- the bond issue proposed to provide funding for the con- struction and expansion of juvenile detention facilities -- and does hereby urge concerned citizens to vote YES on Proposition B. Adopted and approved this 21st day of October, 1968.
