HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 5477a RESOLUTION NO. 5477 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 4693 BY CHANGING THE CLASSIFICATION SCHEDULES FOR POLICE OFFICER AND AMENDING EXHIBIT "A" ATTACHED THERETO. The City Council of the City of Azusa does resolve as follows: SECTION 1. The classification schedules attached to Resolution No. 4693, adopted July 20, 19642 as amended, are hereby amended by substituting the classification schedule for Police Officer, which is attached hereto and made a part hereof, in place and stead of the classification schedule for Police Officer, as now attached to said Resolution. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify.to the adoption of this resolution. Adopted and approved this 7th day of October , 1968. I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular meeting thereof held on theth day of October , 1968, by the following vote of theuncil: AYES: Councilmen: Rubio, Decker, Cooney, Calvert, Solem NOES: Councilmen: None ABSENT: Councilmen: None i 0 I-5 POLICE OFFICER Job Summary Under supervision, patrols an assigned beat in the prevention of crime and the enforcement of law and order; carries out special assignments in the pro- tection of life and property in investigative work;' and does related work as required. Representative Duties Operates an automobile.in patrolling an assigned area for the prevention of crime and the enforcement of laws and regulations; responds to radio messages or telephone instructions and appears at scenes of disorder or crime; notes and reports traffic hazards.; investigates and pre- pares reports on accidents, offenses and damaged to pro- perty; gives directions and information; makes arrests; issues citations; gives verbal warnings; prepares re- ports on arrests and property impounded; directs traffic; intervenes in private or public disputes to protect the public and maintain order; appears in'court, whether on or off duty, as the arresting officer; transports prison- ers; investigates complaints; interrogates persons whose actions are suspicious; writes case reports on a log of activities; occasionally relieves a superior officer and acts for him; serves on the desk, answering telephone, taking complaints, and operating a radio telephone in dispatching patrol cars; fingerprints prisoners, appli- cnats, and salesmen; takes photographs of prisoners; accepts bail and gives receipts. As assigned to the Motorcycle Patrol, operates a two= wheel motorcycle in patrolling streets and highways within the city and intersections for the enforcement of traffic violations; investigates traffic accidents; controls traffic at the scene of accidents. As -assigned to the Detective;Division, receives assign- ments'to investigate violations of .state and local laws; collects and preserves evidence; apprehends and arrests lawviolators; reviews general police bulletins; mases reports of cases handled and action .taken; interrogates witnesses and prisoners; appears in court and presents evidence. Organizational Relationships Police Officer is the entering level class in the Police Department. An employee of this class works under the direct supervision of a Police Sergeant. 0 POLICE OFFICER QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE Training and Experience 1-5 Minimum Requirements; High school graduation OR G.E.D. Certifi- cate reflecting an average score of 45 with no score less than 35. After appointment, an employee should be willing to attend college level classes in police science and related fields during off -hours in order to qualify and meet the requirements for advancement. Knowledge and Abilities A high degree of general intelligence, verbal facility, memory and adaptability are required of all Police Officers. Ability to understand departmental policies, rules, instructions, laws, regu- lations and police literature, together with an aptitude for law enforcement work; ability to analyze situations and to adopt a quick, effective and reasonable course of action; ability to write clear and accurate reports; ability to use good English and a good vocabulary; ability to understand and follow oral directions; ability to learn the use and care of automobiles, motorcycles and small fire- arms; keen observation and ability to remember names, faces and details of incidents; ability to meet weight, height and other physical stand- ards established by the City Council and to perform duties requiring physical endurance and agility. License Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the State of California. Minimum Physical Requirements Applicants must be at least 5 feet 7 inches in height, 145 lbs, in weight; at least 20 natural teeth; normal visual function and acuity, not less than 20/40 in each eye without correction and corrected to 20/20 in each eye with normal color vision. Applicant must pass a physical examination prior to probationary appointment, and annually thereafter. Rev. 10/68
