A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF AZUSA URGING THE INCLUSION IN THE NATIONAL
SYSTEM OF INTERSTATE AND DEFENSE HIGHWAYS OF
STATE ROUTE 30 (FOOTHILL FREEWAY) FROM INTER-
STATE ROUTE 210 TO PROPOSED STATE ROUTE 31,
AND PROPOSED STATE ROUTE 31 (DEVORE FREEWAY)
FROM STATE ROUTE 30 TO INTERSTATE ROUTE 15.
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States has approved
the addition of 1500 miles to the National System of Interstate
and Defense Highways; and
WHEREAS, State Route 30 (Foothill Freeway) from Inter-
state Route 210 to proposed State Route 31, and proposed State
Route 31 (Devore Freeway) from State Route 30 to Interstate Route
15, a distance of approximately 29 miles, is a logical addition to
the National System of Interstate and Defense Highways, as these
routes will provide a more natural routing for traffic between
points east and the Los Angeles metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS, the area served by the Foothill Freeway and
the Devore Freeway is on the brink of unprecedented growth with
anticipated traffic volumes reflecting the expected growth; and
WHEREAS, the motorist using existing Interstate Routes
will travel approximately 19 miles farther than the motorist using
the Foothill and Devore Freeways; and
WHEREAS, the 19 mile trip differential represents a
substantial saving in both time and user costs for each trip,
which, when calculated as an annual savings justifies early con-
struction of this routing; and
WHEREAS, construction of the northerly 2.2 miles of the
Devore Freeway is underway and scheduled for completion early in
1969; and
WHEREAS, construction of Interstate Route 210, in the
vicinity of its junction with Route 30, is scheduled for the
1968-69 Fiscal Year; and
WHEREAS, construction of Routes 30 and 31, as Non -Inter-
state routes, is several years in the future.
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved and it is hereby recom-
mended that State Route 30 (Foothill Freeway) from Interstate
Route 210 to State Route 31, and State Route 31 (Devore Freeway)
from State Route 30 to Interstate Route 15, a distance of approx-
imately 29 miles, be included in the 1500 mile addition to the
National System of Interstate and Defense Highways.
