HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - December 17, 1934 - CC (2)CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. DECEMBER 17, 1934. The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Chester, City Attorney and City Clerk. Absent: Councilmen: Meier and Morden. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Malone that Councilman Chester act as Mayor pro tem in the absence of Mayor Morden. The minutes of the last regular meeting of December 3, 1934 .were read and approved as read. The City Clerk called the attention of the City Council to the fact that the Notice of Hearing -Protests in the matter of the removal trees on Azusa Avenue between Second and Fourth Streets, had been regularly published and that this is the hour, 7:30 o'clock P.M. in the Council Chamber of the City Council in the City Hall of the City of Azusa was the time and place set for hearing object- ions. The Mayor pro tem then inquired if any written objections had been filed with the Clerk. The Clerk reported that no written objections had been filed. The Mayor pro tem then asked if there was anyone present who wished to protest. There were no pro- tests or objections. Mr. Garrison address- ed the Council expressing himself in favor of the removal of the trees. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Malone that the Street Superin- tendent be instructed to remove the trees as soon as convenient. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Chester. Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen: Meier and Morden. The monthly report of the Los Angeles County Health Department was read and ordered placed on file. Councilman Arnold offered a Resolution entitled: 1031 7:30 P.M. Minutes read and approved of pepper Hearing on removal of pepper trees. No objections to the removal of the trees. Report of the Los Angeles County Health Department filed. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, EMPLOYING JAKE WILLIAMS AS A REGULAR EMPLOYEE RESOLUTION NO. 1436 OF THE STREET DEPARTMENT. ADOPTED. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Malone that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1436. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Chester. Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen: Meier and Morden. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Arnold that City Councilman Meier be and hereby is given the permission of Councilman Meier given this Council to absent himself from all a leave of absence for meetings of this Council for sixty days from 60 days. the date hereof: 50HGU 0 u MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD DECEMBER 17, 1934. 7:30 P.M. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Malone that the City Clerk be instructed to draw a warrant in favor of the Azusa Chamber of Commerce, in the amount of $100.00 to be used for promotion and adver- tising for the City of Azusa. Carrted by the following, vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Chester. Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen: Meier and Morden. A petition requesting the improvement of Angelino Avenue across the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad Company's track, with thirty-seven names attached thereto, was presented. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Arnold that same be referred to the City Council as a Committee of the Whole. Jack Pierce presented the matter of the contract with the Neon Sign Company. Moved and carried that same be referred to the City Attorney. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Arnold that the City Clerk be in- structed to advertise for bids for the pur- chase of fire hose. The bids to be opened on January 7, 1935 at 7:30 P.M. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Chester. Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen: Meier and Morden. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Arnold that the following purchase orders be authorized. 1144-1139-1143-1142-1141 Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: -Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Chester. Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen: Meier and Morden. Councilman Malone offered a Resolution entitled: 105, $100.00 donated to the Chamber of Commerce . A petition offered and referred to the City Council as a Committee of the Whole. Contract for Neon Sign referred to the City Attorney. City Clerk instructed to advertise for hose. Purchase orders approved. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, DECLARING ITS INTEN- TION TO CAUSE TO BE VACATED, CLOSED AND ABANDONED'FOR PUBLIC STREET PURPOSES A CERTAIN PORTION OF THE ALLEY IN BLOCK 20 WITHIN SAID CITY. Moved by Councilman Malone, s econded by Councilman Arnold that same be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1437. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Chester. Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen: Meier and Morden. Councilman Arnold offered an Ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 153 OF SAID CITY.
