Present at roll call: Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Chester, Morden, City Attorney and City Clerk. Absent: Councilmen Meier. The minutes of the last reprular meeting of December 17, 1934 were read and approved as read. Applications for the office of Chief of Police of the City of Azusa were presented by Fred Williams, J. S. Martin, W. J. Lee and Charles A. Gauldin. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Arnold and duly carried that in respect for the former Chief, C. E. Gauldin, same be placed on file.for the time being. Tony Aguilar presented an application for an appointment as police officer. 109 AnDlications for the office of Chief of Police ordered placed on file. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Arnold and duly carried that same Application placed on file. be placed on file. A petition, requesting Charles A. Gauldin's appointment to the office of Chief of Police, with approximately 195 names attached thereto, was presented. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Arnold and duly carried that same be placed on file. Petition ordered placed on file. A communication signed by Fred Long, City Clerk of Glendora, advising the City Council that the City of Glendora wish to terminate City of contract to furnish inhalator service, enter- contract ed into between the City of Azusa and the halator the City of Glendora on July 10, 1934, was read. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Arnold that same be accepted and placed on file. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Arnold that the City Clerk be instructed to draw a warrant in favor of the League of California Municipalities, in the amount of $65.00, dues for year 1935. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Chester, Morden. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Meier. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Chester that the matter of Public ' Liability Insurance for the Lite'.&`Water Depts-. be referred to the Audit & Finance Committee with power to act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Chester, Morden. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Meier. Glendora terminated to furnish in- service. City Clerk instructed to draw warrant in the amount of $65.00, League of California Municipalities dues. Matter of Liability In- surance for Water and Light Department referred to the Audit & Finance Committee with power to act. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Arnold that Councilman Malone be and he is hereby appointed and authorized to represent the City of Azusa at the annual meeting of the Stockholders of the Azusa Citrus Association to be held on January Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Arnold, Chester, Morden. Moved'by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Chester that the following bids be read sberry Reynolds, Jr. Inc. Dodge four door sedan - - $ 967.57 or a Plymouth four door sedan - - $ 881.00 California Sales Tax and license extra. Trade in on Buick 1931 sedan model 87 - - $240.00 Jenkins Brothers Ford Dealers Ford V-8 Sedan, 1935, F 0 B Azusa, less license plates - 790.00 Less: Allowance on your 1931-8-80 Buick Sedan #2479247, Eng. #2615493, without spot-lites siren and gun racks. 390.00 Difference - 400.00 From this you are entitled to deduction of Federal Excise Tax of 17.76 Making the net difference and cost 382.24 Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Malone that the Mayor be authorized and directed to purchase, in behalf of the City of Azusa, a 1935 Ford V-8 Sedan for $382.24 from Jenkins Brothers in accordance with above mentioned letter. Also that the Mayor be authorized and directed to sign, in behalf of the City of Azusathe necessary papers for the transfer of the Buick 8 Sedan referred to in said letter. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Chester, Morden. Noes: None. -Absent: Councilman Meier. A contract to furnish the City with gasoline was submitted by the Standard 011 Company. Moved by Councilman Chester,.seconded by Councilman Malone that same be placed on file. Councilman Arnold offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, FIXING THE SALARY OR, COMPENSATION OF J. 0. DURRELL AS CITY JUDGE. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Chester that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1438. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Chester, Morden. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Meier. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Chester that the Purchasing Committee be authorized and directed to purchase such documents, forms and papers as may be necessary for the Azusa City Court. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Arnold, Chester, Morden. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Meier. Mayor authorized to purchase Ford V-8 for Police Department. Gasoline contract ordered placed on file. RESOLUTION NO. 1438 ADOPTED. Purchasing Committee authorized to pur- chase necessary docu- ments for City Court. 50HGU 113 .r MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING. JANUARY 7, 1935. 7:50 P.M. Councilman Malone offered the following Resolution: RESOLUTION OF CONDOLENCE WHEREAS, C. E. Gauldin, our Chief of Police, friend and co-worker, has passed from our midst into that realm from which no traveler returns: and WHEREAS our departed friend and fellow worker has spent many years of his unselfish and active life in Azusa and vicinity during which period he has given all of his time, effort and ability to a promoting the public welfare and the up -building of our community;and WHEREAS the deceased for twenty-one years prior to his passing was the Chief of Police of the City of Azusa where he labored con- sistently and faithfully for the public good and gave all of his time, energy and exceptional ability towards solving the City's peace problems and making our community a better place in which to live; and WHEREAS in the passing of C. E. Gauldin the community has lost a real friend, worker and neighbor: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the City Council of the City of Azusa, California at a regular session assembeled this 7th day of January, A.D., 1935, that we hereby express our personal loss and sympathy as well as the heartfelt sympathy of this community to the members of the bereaved family in the loss of a faithful husband, a good father, beloved brother, staunch friend and useful citizen. AND THEREFORE BE IT FURTHUR RESOLVED that the badge worn by the Chief, C. E. Gauldin, be placed in the trophy case, in the office of the Chief of Police of the City of Azusa, in memory of Azusa's first and only Chief of Police who won the hearts of all those whom be served through his honesty, integrity and loyalty. AND BE IT FURTHUR RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon our minutes and a co -,.y thereof be sent to the family of the deceased. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and legally adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular meeting held January 7th,.1935, by the following vote of the Council: AYES: Councilmen: MALONE, ARNOLD, CHESTER, MORDEN.
