HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 55100 RESOLUTION NO. 5510 0 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA HONORING MARLOWE R. MADISON,,RETIRING CHIEF OF THE AZUSA FIRE DEPARTMENT, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE CITY SERVICE WHEREAS, Marlowe R. Madison served the City of Azusa as a member of the Azusa Fire Department for thirty-five years, beginning in 1933, when the Department was operated exclusively by volunteer personnel; and was named Captain in charge of Training in 1937 and Assistant Chief in 1944; and was appointed Chief of the Department in 1949, in which capacity he served with honor and distinction until his retirement on December 31, 1968; and WHEREAS, Marlowe R. Madison has guided the progress of the Department with singular skill through all the difficult years of the post-war period, overcoming the obstacles and solving the problems incident to this City's rapid growth; and WHEREAS, Chief Madison's wise planning, patient study and tireless labors culminated in an exceptionally well-equipped Department, including the construction in 1962 of a Fire Facility so well designed and executed as to earn the admiration of fire -fighting experts throughout Southern California; and WHEREAS, Chief Madison's management of Fire Depart- ment personnel has been characterized by a notable com- bination of discipline, understanding and comradeship, eliciting both respect and affection from the men under his command and achieving the maximum of Departmental loyalty; and WHEREAS, Chief Madison, during all the years of his service to the City of Azusa, has always found time and energy to contribute to the well-being of his community through various avenues of service, establishing a high standard of unselfish service, beyond the boundaries of his official duties; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by this City Council of the City of Azusa, California, that the grateful appreciation of this Azusa community and its people for the exceptional services rendered by Marlowe R. Madison be hereby recognized and recorded; and that the appre- ciation merge with warm wishes of all for a full and fruitful life in all the years to come. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and shall transmit a certified copy thereof to Mr, Marlowe R.
