HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 5582RESOLUTION NO. 5582 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA ENDORSING ALL EFFORTS TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF JUDGES FOR LOS ANGELES COUNTY. WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County backlog of pending Civil and Criminal cases has now exploded to the point where the legal rights and protections of every citizen in Los Angeles County are now severely affected, and the present congestion represents an extreme danger to all citizens of Los Angeles County; and WHEREAS, the situation in the East District of the Los Angeles County Superior Court is in the most perilous position of all the districts, with a criminal backlog of cases now 230% greater than last year, which was an extremely con- gested year, and the civil case backlog now 66.3% increased over last year; and WHEREAS, the court facilities are now available to house additional judges in the Superior Court and no need is more critical than this need now facing our citizens; and WHEREAS, the expenses of adding five additional judges in the East District will be less than $1.00 per year per person; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that we the City of Azusa do hereby unanimously endorse all efforts to increase the number of judges for Los Angeles County by a minimum of twenty (20), with five (5)6f that number being budgeted for the East District; we do hereby join, with our fellow citizens in urging the legislature, the Board of Supervisors and the Governor of this State to cooperate in the presently pending efforts to increase the number of judges for this County and we further voice our support for all counties in a similar position recognizing that the need of our citizenry for additional judges and facilities is a need that goes to the very heart of our American democratic system of government. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and shall transmit a certified copy thereof to the Governor of this State and to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Adopted and approved this 2 nd'day of June, 1969.
