A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA SUPPORTING CER-
TAIN STATE LEGISLATION TO PERMIT LEASING OR
CONVEYING TO THE CITY OF AZUSA CERTAIN STATE
LAND IN EXCESS TO HIGHWAY REQUIREMENTS OR UN-
DEVELOPED RIGHT-OF-WAY FOR USE AS PARKLETS
AND AESTHETIC AREAS ALONG THE FOOTHILL FREEWAY.
WHEREAS, The beautification of freeways and the
development of recreational areas are exemplary goals
for which government at every level should strive; and
WHEREAS, The City of Azusa has initiated a plan
for the creation of parklets and aesthetic areas
along the Foothill Freeway; and
WHEREAS, The successful completion of this plan
is dependent upon the passage of legislation to allow
the lease or conveyance of state land which is either
excess to highway requirements or undeveloped`, right-
of-way to the city; and
WHEREAS, The State Division of Highways has been
cooperating with our community in order to utilize
these parcels for the benefit of the citizens of
Azusa and the many people who would use the freeway;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the City
of Azusa express its support for legislation authored
by our Assemblyman Harvey Johnson and Peter Schabarum
(AB 1482) and similar measures (AB 455 and SB 1238)
introduced in the State Legislature to accomplish
this same purpose;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City Clerk is
directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to the
members of the State Senate Committees on Governmental
Efficiency and Economy, and Finance and the Assembly
Committees on Government Administration and Ways and
Means who will hear these measures; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City Clerk shall
certify to the adoption of this resolution.
Adopted and approved this 5th day of May, 1969.
