HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 5568RESOLUTION NO. 5568 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA URGING_THE ADOPTION OF AB 1356, PLACING FIREFIGHTERS IN CITIES UNDER THE EMPLOYER-EMPLOYEE RELATIONS ACT. WHEREAS, the employer-employee relationship of all employees in public service should be covered by a single and uniform body of legislation to assure fair and equitable treatment; and WHEREAS, a question presently exists as to whether firefighters employer-employee relations in cities are governed by Chapter 10, Division 4, Title 1 of the Government Code, or by Chapter 4 of Part 7 of Division 2 of the Labor Code; and WHEREAS, the Legislative Counsel of the State of California has expressed the opinion that the courts might rule the Labor Code sections have precedence over the Govern- ment Code provisions; and WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 1356, as introduced by Assembly- man Robert Burke, would clarify the situation and cause fire- fighters to be covered by the Employer -Employee Relations Act as embodied in Senate Bill 1228; and WHEREAS, this Council believes uniformity of regulation of all employees would be in the best interest of both cities and city employees; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Azusa that all cities and their representatives in the State Legislature are urged to give their support and endorsement to Assembly Bill 1356 in order that uniform regulation of employer-employee relationships may be attained for all public employees.
