The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr, Arnold, Chester, City Roll call Attorney and City Clerk. Absent: Mayor Morden. The minutes of the last regular meeting of May 6, 1935 were read. Councilman Arnold requested the name of Minutes approved. sycamore trees be changed to Arizona cypress. After said correction the minutes were approved. The monthly report of the Los Angeles Report of the Los County Health Department was presented Angeles County Health and ordered placed on file. Department filed. An application, presented by Robert books. Ellington, for the position of Life Guard at the Slauson Memorial Plunge, was offered. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Carr that same be placed on file. Moved by Councilman Carr, seconded by Councilman McIntire that the bills present- Statements presented ed by the San Gabriel Protective Association by the San Gabriel be placed on file. Protective Association, Carried by the following vote of the filed. Council: Correspondence filed. Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr, Arnold, Chester. Noes: None. Absent: Mayor Morden. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Carr that the City Clerk be instructed to send telegrams to Assembly- City Clerk instructed man Herbert L. Evans and Senator C. L. to wire Senator Oleson Oleson protesting the passage of a Bill and Assemblyman Evans recommending that automobiles be exempted protesting certain from County and City personal property bills. taxes in order that the State may in- crease State Tax on automobiles and pro- testing Assembly Bill No. 1279 which seeks to prohibit Cities from imposing business license taxes upon persons selling or delivering goods at wholesale. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr, Arnold, Chester. Noes: None. Absent: Mayor Morden. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Carr that the City purchase Authorization to pur- two five dollar membership books, to be chase two membership ' used by Citrus High School or Junior books. College Students, during the School of Government conducted by the University of Southern California. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr, Arnold, Chester. Noes: None. Absent: Mayor Morden. Correspondence relating to the Colorado Correspondence filed. River Transmission Line Route, was present- ed and ordered placed on file. 50HGU m 0 a MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING. MAY 20, 1935. 7:30 P.M. Councilman Chester (Mayor Pro tem) re- ported that the Council had made provisions Councilman Chester for the establishment of an office for the reported on office use of the Coordinating Bureau and notified for Coordinating Mr. Monahan to that effect. Since so Bureau. doing no further action has been taken by said Bureau. Moved by Councilman Carr, seconded by Councilman McIntire that the City Clerk be directed to cancel the existing endorse- ments contained in the letter to Thomas A. Smith, dated March 30, 1935 and in the letter to the City Attorney dated May 8, 1935, both letters being from the Mary- land Casualty Company. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr, Arnold, Chester. Noes: None. Absent: Mayor Morden. City Attorney Healy reported verbally on the progress made in drawing~a Franchise between the City of Azusa and the Associated Telephone Company. The matter of the under pass at the inter- section of Foothill Boulevard and the Santa Fe Crossing, was discussed. Mayor Pro tem Chester appointed the follow- ing committee to investigate said project and report at the next regular meeting: J. C. Muehe, Chairman, Leon Stotlar, H. Chenoweth, B. Kopp, Clyde Dickey, J. L. Wilsford, H. Brooks, Wm. J. Holden, Mrs. J. Harper and a representative of the Pacific Electric Railway Company. Moved by Councilman Carr, seconded by Councilman Arnold that the City Council approve the appointment of this committee. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Arnold, Chester. Noes: None. McIntire, Carr, Absent: Mayor Morden. W. C. Steele, Jr. addressed the City Council relative to a Center Line Survey of the City. The cost of the project to be between 14000and 24000dollars. Mr. Steele to receive 10% of the cost, for engineering services. Moved by Councilman Councilman McIntire to the City Council Whole. Carr, seconded by that same be referred as a Committee of the Carried by the following; vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr, Arnold, Chester. Noes: None. Absent: Mayor Morden. Mr. E. K. Albright addressed the City Council regarding the remodeling -"of the Old Paramount Factory Building, located in Tract 9507, to be used as a fertilizer plant. City Clerk directed to cancel certain endorsements. City Attorney report- ed on Franchise. Mayor Pro tem Chester appointed Committee. W. C. Steele, Jr. addressed the City Council. E. K. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr, Arnold, Chester. Noes: None. Absent: Mayor Morden. Maurice Jones requested permission to build a small house near the sidewalk on his property located on Foothill Boulevard. Moved and carried that this matter be referred to the City Planning Commission to report back at the next regular meet- ing. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr, Arnold, Chester. Noes: None. Absent: Mayor Morden. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Carr that the following re- quisitions be allowed: 1243-1244-1245 Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr, Arnold, Chester. Noes: None. Absent: Mayor Morden. 18 Mr. Albright's request referred to the City Planning Commission. Mr. Jones request referred to the City Planning Commission. Requisitions allowed.
