WHEREAS, gasoline taxes currently being distributed to Counties for the construction of Master Plan Highways through Cities is designed to benefit the motoring public rather than to benefit individual Cities; and WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 1709 would automatically assign to the City of Los Angeles approximately 39% of the gasoline tax funds now being distributed to the County of Los Angeles; and WHEREAS, the formula contained in Assembly Bill 1709 for the distribution of a major share of the gasoline taxes now being distributed to the County of Los Angeles is arbitrary and gives no consideration to the highway needs within the entire County of Los Angeles; and WHEREAS, the construction of the County Master Plan of Highways should be completed before there is any change in the formula for the distribution of gasoline taxes to Counties; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Azusa that the City Council finds that Assembly Bill 1709 of the 1971 Session of the California Legislature is not in the public interest and respectfully requests the members of the Legislature who represent the City of Azusa to oppose the same; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby requested to send copies of this resolution to the Hon.
