WHEREAS, the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act has established a procedure for the handling of employer-employee relationships which fully and equitably protect the rights and define the obligations of all City employees in dealing with their employer, and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 333 proposes to amend that act by establishing a separate procedure for the handling of employer- employee relationships for safety employees of cities which includes compulsory arbitration of disputes, and WHEREAS, there is no justification, in fact, for treating disputes involving firemen or policemen differently from other employees, and WHEREAS, compulsory arbitration is not a satisfactory basis for the resolution of disputes between a public employer and its employees because it removes fiscal control of city government from the hands of elected city officers; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Azusa that: 1. The City Council of the City of Azusa hereby records its vigorous opposition to Senate Bill 333 and calls upon the repre- sentatives in the State Legislature who serve the area of the City of Azusa to oppose the bill. 2.
