The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr, Arnold, Chester, Morden, Roll call. City Attorney and City Clerk. The minutes of the last regular meeting of August 5th and the adjourned session ' of August 6, 1935 were read and approved as read. A -communication f-rom the American Cynamid and Chemical'Corporation relating to the fumigation of orange trees, was read. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Arnold that same be referred to the Board of Public Works with power to act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr, Arnold, Chester, Morden. Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication addressed to the Pacific Electric Railway Company, signed by C. H. Howell, Chief Engineer of the Los Angeles County Flood Control District, relative to traffic, crossing the Pacific Electric line on San Gabriel Avenue, in the City of Azusa, was read. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by ' Councilman McIntire that the City Clerk be instructed towrite Mr. Howell re- questing him to instruct the public to use Azusa Avenue and not San Gabriel Avenue, when driving to and from the Canyon. A protest, offered by the Pacific Electric Land Company, on the assessed value of Lot 48, Subdivision #2, Azusa Land and Water Company, was offered. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Carr that same be referred to the City Clerk to report back at the next regular meeting of the City Council: Carried by the following vote of'the Council: -Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr, Arnold, Chester, Morden. Noes: None. Absent: None. Minutes approved. Communication referred to the Board of Public Works. Communication relative to the San Gabriel Canyon traffic referred to the City Clerk. Protest offered by the Pacific Electric Land Company referred to the City Clerk. A communication from H. V. Owens regarding Communiation on fire the recent ruling on fire insurance policies insurance read. was offered. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Carr that Mr. Owens be in- structed to rewrite policy No. 5-500700 for a term of five years, instead of three years, as originally instructed. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr, Arnold, Chester, Morden. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mr. Owens instructed to rewrite policy -50HGU 227 MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING HELD. AUGUST 19, 1935. 7:30 P.M. The firm of Born and Whalen requested a license to operate a restaurant. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman McIntire that a license be issued to Mr. Born for a restaurant only. It being understood that there would be no dancing in this place of business. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr, Arnold, Chester, Morden. Noes: None. Absent: None. A petition, with 174 names attached thereto, was presented, petitioning the City Council to grant Angel Marques a license to operate the Marquis Social Club Cafe at #231 Soldano Avenue, Azusa. Mr. J. Harvey Hearn, attorney, appeared before the Council requesting a license be granted Mr. Marquis. Born and )Whalen granted restaurant license. Petition presented. Councilman Arnold offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIF- RESOLUTION NO. 1461 ORNIA TRANSFERRING THE SUM OF FIVE ADOPTED. THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5000) FROM THE LIGHT FUND TO THE GENERAL FUND. Moved by Councilman Carr, seconded by Councilman Chester that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1461. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr, Arnold, Chester, Morden. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded Matter of repairing by Councilman Carr that the matter of roof on Fire Hall repairing the roof on the Fire Hall be referred to Police Committee. 50HGU W 04 Ooa V 229. The matter of insuring the lighting standards on Foothill Boulevard was dis- cussed. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Chester that same be re - £erred to the City Council as a Committee of the Whole to report back at the next regular meeting.
