A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF AZUSA ENDORSING
SENATE BILL 1261 AND URGING ITS
PASSAGE BY THE STATE LEGISLATURE.
WHEREAS, the City of Azusa has been a member of the Metropolitan Cooperative
Library System; and
WHEREAS, membership in said system has brought numerous benefits to the Library
and people of the City of Azusa; to wit
The extension of the Book, Periodical, Audio -Visual, and Communi-
cation Resources of the Azusa Public Library through the ability freely
to borrow such materials from other Libraries belonging to the system;
and through the rapid system delivery and communication services, and
The extension of information and reference services through the System
Resource Libraries, Scan, and the State Library and other California
Library Systems;
The reduction in travel time and cost by making available free through
telecommunications and delivery services the resources - material and
human - in all twenty-one independent Libraries that are members of
the system; and
The reduction of unnecessary duplication of books and resources in the
Library through the sharing of resources; and
The development of a union list of periodicals; and
The continuing education of Librarians and Support Staff through system
sponsored workshops; and num(efouss'other benefits of the like kind; and
WHEREAS, the City of Azusa has experienced no impairment in its authority over
The Azusa Public Library, nor any exercise of authority over said Library
by other members of the system or the State Librarian; and
WHEREAS, the continued existence of the Metropolitan Cooperative Library System
is dependent upon a program of financial assistance to Library Systems
from the State of California; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bil l 1261 has been introduced into the State Legislature by
Senator Randolph Collier for the purpose of providing full Senate funding
of Public Library Services Act System activities within a three year
period,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Azusa
hereby endorses Senate Bill 1261 and urges its passage by the State Legislature; and
The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and shall transmit
certified copies of some to the California Library Association, the League of Calif-
ornia Cities, Assemblyman William Lancaster and Senator H. L. Richardson,
Assemblyman Harvey Johnson.

of the City of Azusa at an adjourned regular meeting thereof held on the 18th day
of October, 1972, by the following vote of the Council:
