HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 6076• 9 RESOLUTION NO. 6076 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, URGING RICHARD M. NIXON, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, TO WITHHOLD ANY CONSIDERATION OF AID TO NORTH VIETNAM UNTIL ALL AMERICAN PRISONERS OF WAR HAVE BEEN RETURNED AND A FULL ACCOUNTING HAS BEEN MADE OF ALL THOSE LISTED AS MISSING IN ACTION., WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Azusa wishes to commend Richard M. Nixon, President of the United States of America, for negotiating a honorable end to the American involvement in the Vietnam war; and WHEREAS, one of the principal elements of that honor- able settlement was the release of all American Prisoners of War and the accounting of all those listed as Missing in Action; and WHEREAS, a full disclosure of all American P.O.W.'s and a full accounting of all M.I.A.'s has NOT been made by the North Vietnamese; and WHEREAS, plans are being formulated by the United States of America to provide rehabilitative aid to the war-torn areas of North Vietnam as part of the negotiated settlement; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Azusa, County of Los Angeles, State of California, that it emphatically urge Richard M. Nixon, President.,of the United States of America, to withhold any consideration of aid to North Vietnam until all American Prisoners of War have indeed been returned and there has been a full account- ing for all persons Missing in Action. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and transmit a certified copy to Richard M. Nixon, President of the United States of America; Senator Alan Cranston, Senator John V. Tunney, Congressman John H. Rousselot, and Congressman Charles E. Wiggins.
