HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 60630 0 RESOLUTION NO. 6063 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA URGING THE STATE DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS TO APPROVE A PILOT PROJECT ALONG THE POMONA FREEWAY THROUGH THE CITY OF CHINO FOR COMMERCIAL FREEWAY - ORIENTED SIGNS WITHIN THE FREEWAY RIGHT OF WAY. WHEREAS, the network of Freeways in California is the major transportation and economic lifeline of California; and WHEREAS, in order to accommodate the traveling public it is necessary to advertise certain private freeway oriented enterprises along freeways for the comfort and accommodation of motorists; and WHEREAS, present State freeway policy prohibits the installation and use of informational signs within the freeway right of way, necessitating the installation of commercial advertising freeway -oriented business signs along freeway routes; and WHEREAS, the placing of such signs within the right of way for the benefit of the motorists for whom they are intended would enable standardization of commercial signs, symbols and logos and may eliminate costly commercial high- rise signs which are ultimately paid for by the traveling public; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council does hereby request the State Division of Highways to approve a pilot project along the Pomona Freeway through the City of Chino for commercial freeway -oriented signs within the freeway right of way; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this Resolution be sent to the California Highway Commission, the State Highway Engineer and to the City of Chino.
