HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 6282RESOLUTION N0. 6282 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA REQUESTING SUPPORT FOR S.B. 312 The City Council of the City of Azusa does resolve as=follows: WHEREAS, the unemployment rate in California has been increasing at an alarming rate, and every effort should be made to help alleviate this problem; and WHEREAS, the federal government has created a Compre- hensive Employment and Training Act consisting of Titles II and VI to quickly place as many unemployed people as possible with government agencies; and WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act, Titles II and VI, are funded for only twelve months; and WHEREAS, many governmental agencies contract with the State of California Public Retirement System and most of the contracts specify that if any agency employs an individual for more than 1040 hours in one year the individual must become a member of PERS; and WHEREAS, waiving the PERS requirement for one year would generate a savings of approximately ten per cent of the total federal allocation which could be utilized to create additional jobs: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Azusa that they hereby urge every governmental agency contracting with the State of California Public Retirement System to support Senate Bill No. 312 (John Dunlap, 4th District) which temporarily waives the PERS requirements for the CETA Title II and Title VI program, and to so notify each of their state legislative represen- tatives. 1975• Adopted and approved this 18th day of February, Mayor I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular meeting thereof held on the 18th day of February, 1975, by the following vote of the Council: AYES: Councilmen: Rubio, Solem, Cruz, Arkison, Decker NOES: Councilmen: None ABSENT: Councilmen: None
