HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 62650 0_ RESOLUTION NO. 6265 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA SUPPORTING THE HOLIDAY SAFETY PROGRAM. The City Council of the City of Azusa does resolve as follows: WHEREAS, the, year 1974 has seen a greater awareness of the need to save fuel,�'during the energy crisis, result- ing in lowered speed limits, more selective use of vehicles, improved gasoline mileage and a sharp reduc- tion in traffic deaths and injuries, and WHEREAS, the month of December and especially the period just prior to Christmas and continuing through New Year's Day have usually seen an increase in the frequency and severity of traffic deaths, and WHEREAS, the abuse of alcohol has perennially been demonstrated to be an overwhelming factor in this increase, and WHEREAS, the Alcohol Safety Action Project of Los Angeles County has initiated a vigorous public education campaign utilizing the theme, "Don't Let Your Friends Get Smashed", and WHEREAS, it is not only highly desirable but vital that all elements of our community be united in an aggressive effort to reduce traffic accidents during this hazardous period, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Azusa fully supports the cooperative holiday safety programs of our traffic enforcement agencies, our traffic courts, the Los Angeles County Alcohol Safety Action Project and the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the National Safety Council, by urging segments of the com- munity and all citizens to unite in a program of driving with extraccaution and to refrain from operating their vehicles for at least one hour after consuming each one ounce of alcoholic beverage, and further more, to show brotherly love for their friends, families, neighbors and business associates by cooperating withthe current campaign, "Don't Let Your Friends Get Smashed".
