RESOLUTION NO. 6257
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA REQUESTING.LEGISLATIVE ACTION WITH RESPECT
TO THE RAPID TRANSIT.DISTRICT
WHEREAS, the Rapid Transit District has been involved
in the longest public transit district strike in California
history, and
WHEREAS, hundreds of thousands of persons who are
dependent upon public transportation have been unable to reach
places of employment or to obtain necessary medical and other
services because of the strike, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the Rapid Transit
District should be directly responsible to the people rather
than being appointed;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Azusa
does resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. The City Council respectfully requests
the State Legislature to take action to re-examine the make-up
of the Rapid Transit District's governing body and to make
such changes therein as are necessary to provide for the
management of the District by elected members of Boards of
Supervisors or to provide for the direct election of RTD
Board Members in order that the Board will be directly responsi-
ble to the people.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk is directed to send a copy
of this resolution to each of the Senators and Assemblymen
representing the City of Azusa in the State Legislature and
to each of the cities in the County of Los Angeles.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this resolution.

I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly
adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 24th day of October , 1974,
by the following vote of the Z ouncil:
AYES: Councilmen: Rubio, Solem, Cruz, Decker
NOES: Councilmen: Arkison
ABSENT: Councilmen: None
