HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 61990 0 RESOLUTION NO. 6199 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF THE HOLDING OF A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN SAID CITY ON TUESDAY, THE 5TH DAY OF NOVEMBER, 1974, FOR THE SUBMISSION TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF SAID CITY CERTAIN MEASURES RELATING TO THE ELECTION AND TERM OF OFFICE OF THE MAYOR AND CONSOLIDATING SAID ELECTION WITH THE STATE-WIDE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON SAID DATE, WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Azusa desires to submit to the qualified electors of said City at a special municipal election the measures relating to the election and term of office of the Mayor hereinafter set forth; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Azusa does hereby resolve, declare, determine and order as follows: SECTION 1, Pursuant to the requirements of the laws of the State of California relating to General Law Cities, there shall be, and there is hereby called and ordered, held in the City of Azusa, County of Los Angeles, State of California, on Tuesday, the 5th day of November, 1974, a special municipal election of the qualified electors of said City for the purpose of submitting the following questions, to wit: PROPOSITION _ Shall the voters of the City of YES: Azusa elect a Mayor and four City Councilmen instead of electing five City Councilmen, : one of whom is chosen by the : members of the City Council to : NO: : act as Mayor as is now the practice? PROPOSITION YES: If Proposition is approved, shall the term ZT—office of Mayor be two years? N0: t PROPOSITION _ :YES . If Proposition is approved, shall the term if—office of Mayor ' be four, years? NO . That proposition relating to the term of office of the Mayor which receives the-largest'numler of YES votes shall be the proposition which shall have passed. Neither such proposition shall be effective unless a majority of the votes cast upon the,proposition relating to the election of a Mayor receives.a'majority of the votes cast on that proposition: SECTION 2. The special election hereby cAlled for the date hereinbefore specified shall be and'is hereby ordered consolidated'•with the State-wide general election to behheld on said date;.and within said City the precincts, polling places- and'officers of election for the special municipal election hereby called'shall be the same as those provided -for said State-wide- general tate-widegeneral election. The Board of Supervisors of Los Andes County is,hereby requested to order the consolidation -of the special municipal election hereby called with said State-wide general election and said Board of Supervisors is hereby authorized to'canvass the returns of -said special municipal election, and said election shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election,. and only -one form of ballot, namely, the ballots used in said general election, -shall be used, The Board of Supervisors shall certify -the results of the canvass of the returns of said municipal election to the City Council of the City of'Azusa which shall thereafter declare the results thereof. The propositions submitted by this resolution shall be designated on the ballot by. a letter printed on -the left margin of the square con- taining the description of the measure, as provided in Section 10231 of the Elections Code. SECTION 3-.. Notice of the time and place of holding said election is hereby given and the City Clerk is hereby authorized, instructed, and directed to give such further or additional notice of said election in the time, form and manner required by law. SECTION 4.. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution, shall enter the same in the original book of resolutions of said City, and shall make a minute entry of the adoption and passage thereof in the records of the proceedings of the City Council, -.in the minutes of the meeting at which the same is passed and adopted, Adopted and approved this 15th day of -April, 1974.' mayor of` -the City of 4z=u:s`a -2- I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular meeting thereof held on the 15th day of April, 1974, by the following vote of the Council: AYES: Councilmen: Rubio, Solem, Cruz, Decker NOES: Councilmen: Arkison ABSENT: Councilmen: None City Clerk -3-
