HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 6401RESOLUTION NO. 6401 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA EXPRESSING ITS OPPOSITION TO H.R. 10210 OF THE FIRST SESSION OF THE 94TH CONGRESS, RELATING TO UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION COVERAGE FOR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES. WHEREAS, H.R. 10210 which is now pending in the House Rules Committee proposes to mandate unemployment compensation coverage for State and local government employees effective January 1, 1977, and WHEREAS the legislation also proposes to substantially increase the employer's cost of providing unemployment insurance coverage, and WHEREAS, the legislation will have a profound fiscal impact upon California Cities at a time when revenues available for the support of City government are decreasing, and WHEREAS, Cities are faced with the potential loss of revenue sharing, and WHEREAS, the legislation represents another attempt by the Congress of the United States to control the terms and conditions of City employment; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Azusa as follows: SECTION 1. The City Council hereby expresses its unalterable opposition to that portion of H.R. 10210 of the First Session of the 94th Congress which would mandate unemployment insurance coverage for City employees. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and is directed to send copies to Congressman James C. Corman, the author of H.R. 10210, to the Chairman of the House Rules Committee, to Congressman John H. Rousselot and to the United States Senators for California. Adopted and approved this 17th day of May 1976.
