HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 65370 0 RESOLUTION NO. 6537 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA SUPPORTING THE BID OF THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES TO STAGE THE SUMMER GAMES OF THE XXIII OLYMPIAD IN 1984. WHEREAS, the City of Los Angeles has submitted a bid to the U. S. Olympic Committee (USOC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for permission to conduct the Summer Games of the XXIII Olympiad in Los Angeles in 1984; and WHEREAS, the 1932 Summer Olympic Games, which also were staged in the City of Los Angeles, were recognized as a huge success both athletically and organizationally, and brought to the Greater Los Angeles and Southern California area favorable worldwide recognition as a tourist mecca; and WHEREAS, as in its bids to host the 1976 and the 1980 Summer Games, the City of Los Angeles is able to demonstrate to both the USOC and the IOC that our area possesses all the facilities necessary to accommodate the many Olympic disciplines required to stage the 1984 Summer Olympic Games; and WHEREAS, as a center for communications, arts, transporta- tion, entertainment, recreation, culinary variety, hostelry, sports, management expertise and banking, among others, the City of Los Angeles is ideally suited to promote and host the Summer Games in a manner befitting the true spirit of the Olympic Movement; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Azusa, encourages and supports the bid of the City of Los Angeles to stage the Summer Games of the XXIII Olympiad in 1984. ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 20th day of June, 1977.
