WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States is currently considering a proposed Universal Voter Registration Bill which ideally is intended to provide for greater voter turn out at all elections; and WHEREAS, the implementation of this act will result in what people, concerned with the operation of elections, feel to be a state of confusion and the possibility of illegal voting by people who will subvert what the act intends; and WHEREAS, it is felt that the principles of our demo- cracy depend to a large extent on the willingness of its members to display initiative in selecting their leaders. A law which will lead people by the hand to the polling place and provide all manner of facilities, can do no less than sap the strength of our Nation. BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Azusa goes on record, formally and wholeheartedly, opposing the enactment of such a law, and joins with others in urging our Congress to take the necessary steps in order to prevent this from becoming a law of the land.
