A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
OF THE CITY OF AZUSA COMMENDING
THE BENEVOLENT AND PROTECTIVE
ORDER OF ELKS.
WHEREAS, over the years, the Benevolent and Protective
Order of Elks has undertaken as a mission
the protection and preservation of the
American way of life, and
WHEREAS, these activities have caused all citizens to
remember the debt we owe to our forefathers
when they assembled to construct a nation out
of wilderness, and
WHEREAS, in remembering this debt we participate in the
continuing preservation of our traditions and
values, and
WHEREAS, San Gabriel Valley District Elks Lodges are
Planning a Flag Disposal Ceremony at 10:00 A.M.
March 24, 1979, at Palomares Park, 499 E. Arrow
Highway, Pomona, and
WHEREAS, this ceremony, solemn and richly traditional, is
not solely concerned with complying with the
law which requires that the flag, when it is in
such condition that it is no longer a fitting
emblem for display, should be destroyed in a
dignified way, preferably by burning, but also
gives us an opportunity to share in the pageantry
that envelopes us all in this nation.
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED, that the City Council of
the City of Azusa, calls upon all to observe the ceremony,
to remember our national values, and unites in its efforts
