CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. MAY 180 1936. 7:30 P. M.
The City Council of the City of Azusa
met in regular session at the above
time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen:
McIntire, Carr, Arnold, Chester, City Roll call.
Attorney and City Clerk.
Absent: Mayor Morden.
A communication signed by Mayor Morden Communication from
requesting a leave of absence until Mayor Morden read and
' July 1, 1936, was read. accepted.
Moved by Councilman Carr, seconded by
Councilman Arnold that same be granted.
Carried by the following vote of the
Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr,
Arnold, Chester.
Noes: None.
Absent: Mayor Morden.
Moved by Councilman Arnold that Council-
man Carr act as Mayor Pro tem in the
absence of Mayor Morden.
Councilman Carr declined this nomination.
Moved by Councilman Carr, seconded by Councilman Chester
Councilman Arnold that Councilman Chester appointed to serve as
act as Mayor Pro tem in the absence of Mayor Pro tem.
Mayor Morden.
Carried by the following vote of the
Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr,
Arnold. Councilman Chester not voting.
' Noes: None.
Absent: Mayor Morden.
Thereupon Councilman Chester took the
chair.
The minutes of the last regular meeting of Minutes read and
May 4, 1936 were read and approved as read. approved.
A communication signed by George N. Hale,
Superintendent of A7,usa Schools, requesting Communication from the
permission to use the swimming pool and Superintendent of City
assuming all liability, was read and ordered Schools read and ordered
placed on file. placed on file.
An application for the position of Life
Guard at the pool was offered by Bob
Ellington.
Moved and carried that same be placed on
file.
Moved by Councilman Carr, seconded by
Councilman Arnold that the City Attorney
be instructed to draw a Resolution employ-
ing Pat Pollard as Life Guard at the
swimming pool and fixing his compensation.
Carried by the following vote of the
Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr,
Arnold, Chester.
Noes: None.
Absent: Mayor- Morden
Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by
Councilman Carr that the Mayor Pro tem
and City Clerk be instructed and author-
ized to sign a contract between the City
of Azusa and the Ellis Neon Company.
City Attorney instructed
to draw Resolution
employing Pat Pollard
Life Guard
Mayor Pro tem and City
Clerk instructed and
authorized to sign
contract between the

Ellis Neon Company.

A communication signed by Herbert C.
Legg, Chairman of the Board of Super-
visors, relative to the contract between
the City of Azusa and the Los Angeles
County Health Department, was read.
Moved by Councilman Carr, seconded by
Councilman Arnold that Councilman
McIntire be appointed a Committee of one
to act with A. L. Meier regarding this
matter, also that the City Clerk be
instructed to write Mr. Legg and make
the appointment.
Carried by the following vote of the
Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr,
Arnold, Chester.
Noes: None.
Absent: Mayor Morden.
The City Attorney rendered an opinion
regarding this matter to the effect that
a City Council had no authority to spend
public money on such a project.
Councilman Arnold offered a Resolution
entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF AZUSA, ACCEPTING EASEMENT FROM
KEITH, ROYDON, AND MURRAY S. VOSBURG
DATED MARCH 31, 1936, AND AUTHORIZING
' SAME TO BE RECORDED.
Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by
Councilman Carr that this Resolution
be adopted as read and numbered Resolution
No. 1493.
Carried by the following vote of the
Council:—
Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr,
Arnold, Chester,
Noes: None. Absent: Mayor Morden.

Health Contract.
Matter of protecting
citizens at P. E.

Request of C. C. U. #53
for a donation of light
and water denied.
RESOLUTION NO. 1493
ADOPTED.
The danger to the lives of citizens of
Azusa caused by the negligence of the
motormen operating the Pacific Electric
cars on Ninth Street, was discussed.
Moved by Councilman Carr, seconded by
Councilman Arnold that this matter be
referred to the City Attorney to report
back at the next regular meeting of the

Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr,
Arnold, Chester.
Noes: None.
Absent: Mayor Morden.
A communication signed by C. C. U. #53,
Covina, California requesting the City
to furnish light and water for this pro-
ject, was read.
The City Attorney rendered an opinion
regarding this matter to the effect that

The matter of the owner of a used car
lot located on Dr. Brook's property, Dr.Brooks used car lot
furnishing a bond and paying the referred to the City
business license perscribed by Ordinance Attorney.
No. 284 and 290, was again discussed.
Moved and carried that this matter be
referred to the City Attorney.
Mr. Buccola addressed the Council in
behalf of his friend who wished to open
a wine store at 305 Azusa Avenue.
Moved by Councilman Carr, seconded by
Councilman McIntire that this matter be
referred to the Planning Commission.
Carried by the following vote of the
Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr,
Arnold, Chester,
Noes: None.
Absent: Mayor Morden.
The matter of licensing marble tables
was discussed.
No action taken.
Mr. Schultz of the Acme Signaling Company
addressed the Council relative to traffic
signals on the intersection of Foothill
Boulevard and Azusa Avenue.
No action taken.
The matter of exit signs placed over
windows in the Auditorium was discussed.
Moved and carried that same be referred
to the City Attorney.
Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by
Councilman McIntire that the Street
Superintendent be authorized to purchase
50 gallons of kerosine.
Carried by the following vote of the
Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: McIntire, Carr,
Arnold, Chester.
Noes: None.
Absent: Mayor Morden.
The Superintendent of Light and Yater,
Jack Pierce, addressed the Council
relative to the matter of termites
destroying the window frames and wood
work in the office of the Collector.
Moved and carried that this matter be
referred to Jack Pierce to report back
at the next regular meeting.
Moved by Councilman Carr, seconded by
Councilman Arnold that the following
requisitions be allowed: 1467 -1468-
1469-1470-1471-1472-1473-1474-1475-
1476-1477-1478-1479.
Carried by the following vote of the
Council:

Noes: None.
Absent: Mayor Morden.
Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by
Councilman Arnold that the following bills
be allowed and warrants drawn upon the
Treasury for the same.

the City Attorney.
Street Superintendent
authorized to purchase
