A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF AZUSA IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSED
EXPANDED COMMUTER RAIL SERVICE.
WHEREAS, the California Department of Transportation
has proposed to expand commuter rail service from San Bernardino
through the San Gabriel Valley to downtown Los Angeles, and
WHEREAS, because of intense interest in energy
conservation, after many years of uncontrolled growth, Southern
California has found itself in a difficult position; that of
having to provide adequate roadways for innumerable working
residents living long distances from their places of employment,
and
WHEREAS, the lack of a comprehensive and energy
efficient public transportation system has been exacerbated
by diminished petroleum supplies;
NODI, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council
of the City of Azusa, recognizing the need for this system and
how it will ultimately benefit each resident, either directly
or indirectly, supports the efforts of the California Department
of Transportation to provide speedy installation of this extremely
important service insofar as it utilizes existing railway
facilities.
