HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 7026RESOLUTION NO. 7026 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, IN SUPPORT OF GRANTING A PERMIT FOR OPERATION OF THE MISSION CANYON LANDFILL. WHEREAS, the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County and the cities represented therein have created a regional system for solid waste disposal that has served well the many cities in the County, including the City of Los Angeles, over the past twenty years; and WHEREAS, landfills are an essential part of any solid waste management system which should also include resource recovery, i.e., waste reduction, recycling and refuse -to -energy; and WHEREAS, the maintenance of this regional system is essential to protect the environment and to conserve both the energy and economic resources of the cities within the County; and WHEREAS, the denial of a permit to operate the Mission Canyon Landfill, which permit is currently under consideration by the Planning and Environment Committee and the City Council of the City of Los Angeles, threatens to remove an essential link from this carefully planned regional system; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Azusa joins with the County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County to petition the Planning and Environment Committee and the Los Angeles City Council to maintain the integrity of this most crucial solid waste management resource by granting a permit for operation of the Mission Canyon Landfill. ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 3rd day of August, 1981.
