The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Chester, Carr, City Attorney and City Clerk. Absent: Councilman Arnold. A communication from the Secretary of the Committee on Governmental Simpli- fication and one from the office of S. V. Cortelyou, District Engineer, Division of Highways for the State of Califbrnia, were read and ordered placed on file. A proposed Health Contract between the City of Azusa and the Los Angeles County Health Department, was introduced. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman McIntire and duly carried that same be referred to the City Attorney to report back at the next regular meeting. A communication from S. V. Cortelyou, District Engineer, relative to the signals at the intersection of Azusa Avenue and Foothill Boulevard, was read and order- ed placed on file. Councilman Chester offered a Resolution entitled: ' A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA TRANSFERRING THE SUM OF TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($10,000.) FROM THE LIGHT FUND TO THE GENERAL FUND. Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1505. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, Chester, McIntire, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Arnold. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman McIntire and duly carried that the bill for gasoline purchased from the Petrol Gasoline Company, be referred to the men at the Fire Station for checking. Roll call. Communication read and ordered placed on file. The proposed Health Contract between the City of Azusa and the Los Angeles County Health Department was read and referred to the City Attorney to report back. A communication from S. V. Cortelyou read and ordered placed on file. RESOLDT lO N NO. 1505 ADOPTED. Bill for gasoline referred to the Fire- men. Request to remove drain granted. A communication signed by H. S. Alexander, requesting the removal of a storm drain at the north west corner of Foothill Boulevard and San Gabriel Avenue, was read: Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman McIntire that this request be granted, provided that the work be done under the supervision of the Street Super- intendent and that there be no expense to the City of Azusa. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Chester, Carr. Noes: None Absent: Councilman Arnold. Roll call. Communication read and ordered placed on file. A communication from the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce requesting permission to advertise the National Air Races with music and floats on September 2, 1936, was read. AUGUST 170 1936, 7:30 P.4159 Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that same be granted. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strobmeier, McIntire, Chester, Carr, Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Arnold. Mr. Frank P. Cokely appeared before the Council with a written application for a Veterans free license to operate a tear for hire' in Azusa. No action taken. Police Office Smith reported on collect- ions of Business Licenses. Julio Rosales requested permission to operate a business at 305 Azusa Avenue. It was again explained to Mr. Rosales that said property is located in the residental zone and the Planning Commi- ssion recommended that such an appli- cation be denied. Harry Owens, representing Owens-Vosburg Insurance Company, addressed the Council relative to a re -survey of the City by the Board of Fire Underwriters. Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by Councilman Strobmeier that the City Clerk be instructed and authorized to write the Board of Fire Underwriters requesting them to make a re -survey of the City of Azusa in view of certain improvements made by the City for Fire protection. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strobmeter, McIntire, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Arnold. Request to advertise Air Races granted. Frank Cokely request a free license to operate a car for hire Julio Rosales request permission to operate a business at 305 Azusa Avenue. City Clerk instructed to write the Board of Underwriters and re- quest a re -survey. Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by Mr. Owens instructed Councilman Chester that Mr. Owens be in- to write policy on structed to send for binder on Lighting Lighting Standards. City Attorney Miller reported on the Traffic Ordinance referred to him at the last regular meeting of the Council, stating -that he would not recommend the passage of same for the time being. He also reported that in his opinion Mr. Miller ruled that ' the business now being operated by Mr. Mr. Pea must supply Fee, is a nen. business and it would be Bond required by necessary for Mr. Fee to supply the Ordinance No. 284. bond and pay the license fee required by Ordinance No. 290.
