HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 71777 r RESOLUTION NO. 7177' A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA AMENDING THE JOB SPECIFICATIONS FOR POLICE LIEUTENANT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The job specifications.for the classif- ication of Police Lieutenant are hereby amended to read in accordance with Exhibit A attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference. SECTION 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately. SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution. ADOPTED AND APPROVED THIS 7th day of September, 1982. As administrative Services Division Officer, directs, supervises and conducts admin- istrative support services; assists in administrative duties as assigned within the Administrative Services Division; does related work as required. Representative Duties 1. As Operations Division Administrative Lieutenant - acts as the commanding officer of the police department in the absence of superior officers; directs and supervises the total operation of the Police Department during assigned hours; directs -and supervises all facets of the Operations Division functions and Records Bureau personnel. 2. As Administrative Services Lieutenant - assigns, directs and supervises the maintenance of the police facility, grounds, and city jail; directs and supervises trusty work schedules and disci- pline; supervises prisoner care program including housing, dietary, clothing, hygiene, and medical needs; supervises and conducts personnel investigations; does legal research as assigned; acts as department representative on legal motions for discovery; supervises the crime prevention program as assigned; supervises' City's Animal Control operation. Organizational Responsibilities Police lieutenant is a two -position class at management level. An employee of this class reports to a police captain and directly supervises police sergeants, police officers, police clerks, and dispatchers. Days and hours of assignment are established by the division commander under the direction of the Chief of Police QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE Training and Experience AA Degree or 60 college units directed toward a college degree and five years professional police experience including two years as a police sergeant. College units may be substituted for time in grade at one unit per month not to exceed six Page 1 of 2 EXHIBIT A POLICE LIEUTENANT months. Substitution units must be over and above the units used to meet minimum education qualification. Experience may be substituted for the college units as follows: three units per year at fifth step sergeant, to a maximum of nine units. Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of modern methods of police science, organization, and management; of criminal law, laws of arrest, and related legal bases of police activities; of modern investigative methods, crime detection devices and activities, and inter- governmental police services and compensation; of crime prevention and deterrent methods and resources available to police in this field; of the causes, prevention, and control of delinquency; of the rules of evidence and of the laws governing the custody of persons; of traffic enforcement; traffic and accident analysis methods, traffic engineering, and traffic education; of teaching methods and techniques. Ability to plan and coordinate the work of subordinate police officers; to lead and train personnel in technical law enforcement work; to prepare accurate and comprehensive reports; to establish and maintain effective working relation- ships with subordinates, other officers, and the public.
