The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular adjourned session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr and City Clerk. Absent: City Attorney. The matter of additional fire insurance on the Seagrave Truck, was discussed. It was agreed that the City of Azusa should apply to the Board of Fire Underwriters for a rate on Fire and Theft for the City fleet. Councilman Chester reported that the cost of repairs on the roof for the Fire Hall would not exceed $35.00. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that the Street Superintendent be instructed to repair the sidewalk on Alameda Avenue between Fifth Street and Foothill Boulevard. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Roll call. City to apply for rate, on Fire and Theft Insurance. Roof and Fire Hall to cost $35.00 Street Superintendent to erect curb on Enid Avenue. Alpha Beta Food Market's request for a driveway referred to the City Planning Commission. Flag at half mast. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Arnold that�the Street Superintendent be instructed to erect a 50 foot curb in front of Lot B. Block ' D, Azusa Heights Tract in order to pro- tect the new street work on Enid Avenue from being undermined by storm waters. The work to be included in projects paid by County funds. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Chester recommended that the request for a driveway on Azusa Avenue, made by the Alpha Beta Food Markets, be granted. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman McIntire that this matter be referred to the City Planning Commission to report back. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. ' Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman McIntire that the City flag be lowered to half mast until noon each day for one week in acknowledge- ment of the passing of Azusa's first resident and patriotic citizen, W. P. Barnes. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Roll call. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by'Councilman McIntire that although the Council disapprove of the employing of extra help in the Tax Collector's office and protests against the creation of the situation which the Tax Collector now finds himself in, with relation to making out tax bills, which should have boen made out prior to this time; never- theless as a safe guard to the City of ' Azusa the Council does now authorize the Tax Collector to employ a steno- grapher to assist him, for a time not to exceed two weeks, at $15.00 per week, so that the City tax bills may be gotten out in proper time without loss to the tax payer. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Strohmeler, seconded by Councilman Arnold that the Chamber of Commerce be allowed $200.00 to print pamphlets, advertising the City of Azusa. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Strohr"ier presented the ' master key which had been in his possession, to Mayor Carr. Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that the follow- ing bill be allowed and a warrant drawn upon the Treasury for the same. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None.
