Due to lack of a quorum, the meeting was adjourned until 8 o'clock. 49.3 CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. OCTOBER 19, 1936. 8:00 o'clock P.M. The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular adjourned session at Adjourned until 8:00 the above time and place. o'clock. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, ' Carr, City Attorney and City Clerk. The minutes of the last regular meeting of October 5 and the adjourned meeting of October 7, 1936 were read and approved as read after the correction in the name of McKeever Avenue instead of Enid Avenue was made. A card expressing Irene and Jack Pierce's appreciation was read and ordered placed on file. A communication from the Mayor of Glen- dale requesting the Council to vote YES on proposition No. 15, was read. After some discussion, same was,placed on file. A request, made by Sgt. Kay M. Brewer, Associate Editor of "The Bugle Call% a monthly periodical published by Company E, 185th Infantry, Monrovia, California, for a $3.00 add, was read. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Chester that the City Clerk be instructed to place the add in"The Bugle Call". Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication from Lee Bashore of Glen- dora, relative to fire protection in County territory was read and ordered placed on file. A communication from the Automobile Club of Southern California relative to signs effecting pedestrian travel, was read and ordered placed on file. Roll call. Minutes approved correction made. Communication ordered placed on file. City Clerk instructed to insert add. Communication ordered placed on file. Communication ordered placed on file. A communication from Richard Graves offer- Communication ing two free copies of a "Compilation of Laws Relating to Cities of the Sixth Class", to member Cities of the League and pricing extra copies at $2.50, was read. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Arnold that the City Clerk be instructed to order four copies. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. The Azusa Planning Commission recommended that the Council grant the Mexican Penticostal Mission permission to erect a church on the corner of Third Street and Soldano Avenue. City Clerk instructed to order 4 copies of "Compilation of Laws Relating to Cities of the Sixth Class". Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that the Council grant the Mexican Penticostal Mission permission to erect this church. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. The Azusa Planning Commission recommended that the request made by Mr. Morgan, re- presenting the Alpha Beta Market to cut the curb on Azusa Avenue, be denied for the reason that it would create extra hazards to pedestrians and would not be conducive to their safety. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman McIntire that the request presented by the Alpha Beta Market to cut the curb on Azusa Avenue be denied upon recommendation of and for the reasons cited by the Planning Commission. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Councilman Chester not voting. Noes: None. Absent: None._ Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman McIntire that Dr. Sandoval's request to use the Auditorium for a Mexican entertainment on October 22, 1936 be granted, provided no admission is charged. ' Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None: Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman McIntire that the First Church of Christ Scientist be granted per- mission to use the Auditorium on October 26, 1936. A communication, signed by Velma Robinson, secretary to the American Legion Auxiliary, enclosing a check for $1.00 to be donated to the tree planting fund, was read. Moved and carried that the City Clerk be instructed to give the check to the Azusa Herald and write the Auxiliary thanking ' them for the donation. A communication from J. C. Muehe, re- questing the privilege of renewing the Fire and Theft Policy on the Fleet, was read. Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by Councilman Chester that Mr. Muehe be instructed to renew this policy. Carried by the fb llowing vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilment Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. MIR Alpha Beta Market request to cut driveway denied. Dr. Sandoval granted permission to use Auditorium. First Church of Christ Scientist granted per- mission to use the Auditorium. American Legion Auxiliary donated $1.00 to tree fund. J. C. M. 497 Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Chester that the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized and instructed to sign the agreement between the City of Azusa and the Calvert Electric Shop. Carried by the fb llowing vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. ' Councilman Chester reported that the side- walks mentioned in Mr. Strang's complaint haW been repaired. He also reported that the roof on the Fire Hall, repaired by Mr..Mason, still leaked and the bill for repairs would not be paid until the roof was satisfactory. Mr. Dan White, Chairman of a committee con- sisting of representatives of the Woman's Club, Business and Professional Women's Club, 20-30 Club and American Legion, appeared before the Council requesting the erection of a Band Shell in the park north of the City Hall Building. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman McIntire that this matter be referred to the Board of Public Works to make an investigation and report back. Carried by the following vote ofthe Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. City Clerk and Mayor instructed to sign agreement between the City of Azusa and Calvert Electric Shop. Councilman Chester reported on fire hall roof and sidewalks. Request for the erect- ion of a Band Shell in the Park referred to the Board of Public Works. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that the City Clerk be authorized and instructed to cancel the order placed with Kort H. Meier for a Chevrolet Sedan for use in the Police Department, also cancel the order for a Siren placed with the Roy G. Davis Company, for the reason that the Chevrolet Sedan was offered for immediate delivery on September 8th and has not yet been delivered. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold. -Absent: `None. Noes: Councilmen: Chester, Carr. City Attorney Miller reported that pro- position No. 15 appearing on the November ballot has nothing to do with the diver- sion of gas tax funds and referred the Council to proposition No. 10 for said diversion. H. V. Owens appeared before the Council calling their attention to the fact that in his opinion the Seagrave Fire Truck was under -insured. He also quoted prices on collision for certain cars in the fleet. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Arnold that the following requisitions be allowed: 1588-1589-1590- 1591-1592-1593-1594-1595-1596-1597-1598.
