A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF AZUSA AMENDING THE JOB SPECIFI-
CATIONS FOR ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The job specifications for the classi-
fication of Accounting Assistant are hereby amended to read
in accordance with Exhibit A attached hereto and incorporated
herein by reference.
SECTION 2. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this Resolution.
ADOPTED AND APPROVED THIS 19th day of September 1983.

ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT Date Adopted:
SOB SUMMARY
Under direction - performs a wide variety of difficult clerical accounting activities
involved in keeping and reviewing financial, statistical, and cost records; assists in
the overall operation of the accounting office and in the supervision of clerical
personnel; and does related work as required.
Representative Duties
Supervises and assists in the maintenance of the City's accounting activities, includ-
ing budget, records, and reports; posts and balances general and subsidiary ledgers;
reviews, compiles, and records financial transactions; verifies salary claims, computes
and proves payroll deductions and prepares complex payrolls; organizes and adopts
financial records systems; assists in adapting automated data processing equipment to
accounting objectives; sorts and classifies fiscal documents; prepares schedules,
including claims, warrants, and estimates; operates adding/calculating and automated
data processing equipment; applies cost figures to develop tentative estimates according
to present procedures; aids in implementing new procedures; prepares and sends various
periodic and special financial and statistical reports._..Maintains personnel files for
each employee regarding payroll information, leave, insurance records, etc. Supervise
data processing operation.
Organizational Responsibilities
Accounting Assistant is a one -position class in the Accounting Division of the Finance
Department. This position reports to the Finance Officer and supervises the classes of
Account Clerk, Senior Account Clerk, and various part-time positions.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Graduation from high school, or GED equivalency, supplemented by courses in accounting
and bookkeeping; and
Five years of increasingly responsible experience in keeping financial records,
accounting, or bookkeeping, at least two of which have been at a level of full -charge
bookkeeper or equivalent.
Knowledee and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the.methods, practices, and terminology used in bookkeeping and
related financial and statistical work; maintaining and balancing basic accounts,
journals, and ledgers; compiling standard financial reports; auditing demands for pay-
ment. Knowledge of modern office methods, procedures, and automated data processing
equipment as they may affect the operation of the Accounting Division.
Ability to prepare and analyze financial statements, invoices, and reports; make arith-
metical calculations rapidly and accurately; understand and apply general and technical
written directions; supervise others.
Skills
Operate various types of adding/calculating machines, and automated data processing
equipment.
