The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Roll call. Carr and City Clerk. Absent: City Attorney. The minutes of the regular meeting of Minutes approved. December 7, 1936 were read and approved as read. ' City Attorney Miller entered the meeting and took his seat at the Council table. 37 The City Clerk announced that she had Three bids received. received three bids in answer to Notice Calling for Bids for 5,000 tons (more or less) asphaltic concrete (pre -mix). Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman McIntire that the bids be now opened, examined and publicly declared. Bids. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. GEORGE R. CURTIS PAVING COMPANY In compliance with the advertisement calling therefore, we hereby propose and agree to furnish 5,000 tons, more or less, of E,1sphaltic Concrete (Pre -mix) f. o. b. job, in the City of Azusa at $1.89 per ton, net cash, exclusive of California Sales Tax. ASPHALT PAVING MATERIALS COMPANY As per your advertisement calling for bids on asphaltic Concrete (pre -mix) F. 0. B. job in Azusa and mixed in accordance with City of Azusa specifications we respectfully submit price as follows: 5000 tons kmore or less) Asphaltic Concrete (pre -mix) delivered and truck spread but not raked or rolled - $2.24 per ton inc. tax. OSVIALD BROTHERS In accordance with advertisement, we propose to furnish approximately 5000 tons Premix F. 0. B. job site for the sum of One and 92/100 Dollars - (1.^.2) per ton. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman McIntire that the bid be awarded to George R. Curtis Paving Company, the lowest responsible bidder. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. ' A communication from the Planning Commission, relative to the removal of Planning Commission denied permit to a pepper tree in front of the property remove pepper tree. at x€418 Alameda Avenue and one from the Secretary of the League of California Municipalities, were read. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Communications filed. Councilman Arnold and duly carried that same be placed on file. A communication from A. J. Messier, business Communication from manager for J. L. Pomeroy, M. D. relative A. J. Messier. to Ordinances governing Public Health Services, was read. 38 N MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING DECEMBER 21, 1936. 7:30 A Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman McIntire that the City Clerk be instructed to inform Mr. Messier that the Council have no Ordinances in mind at this time. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. A report on the Vosburg Memorial Clinic, ' from the Title Insurance and Trust Company, was offered and ordered placed on file. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that Walter Malone be appointed to represent the City of Azusa at the annual meeting of the Azusa Agricultural Water Company on January 4, 1937. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication from Roscoe Moss Company, agreeing to accept the lowest estimate made, on drilling the well as being their own, was read. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman McIntire that same be placed on file. Carried by the following vote of the Council: ' Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mr. G. W. Guyer reported that his lot No. 32 in the Mountain View Tract, was being used as a road because of a ditch which had been placed in the alley adjoining his property on the South. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman McIntire that the matter be referred to the Board of Public Works to report back. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mayor Carr explained to Mr. Strumm, who was present, that the bids submitted to the City Council for the drilling of a well on December 7, 1936, would be brought before this body and definite action taken at the regular meeting on January 4, 1937. Mr. Strumm agreed that this would be satisfactory. City Clerk instracted to ,,write Dr. Pomeroy � Report on Vosburg Memorial Clinic filed. Walter Malone appointed to re- present the City at Azusa Agri- cultural Water Company meeting. Communication from Roscoe Moss Company ordered placed on file. Mr. Guyer's com- plaint referred to the Board of Public Works. Bids for sinking a well carried over until January 4, 1937. Mayor Carr explained reason for holding over bids to Mr. Strumm. Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by Mayor Carr that the awarding of the bid for sinking a well be carried over until the next regular meeting of the Council as some of the members had not had time ' to investigate the equipment, etc. owned by the Companies bidding. Carried by the following vote of the Council: .yes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. DECEtdBER 21, 1936. 7:30 P. Td. Mr. Putnam presented a petition signed by the presidents of the following Mr. Putnam presented organizations: a petition. Rotary Club, Azusa Woman's Club, Azusa Business and Professional Women's Club, Parent -Teachers Association, American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, 20-30 Club, Chamber of Commerce and Y.M.C.A., also Mr. Putnam, requesting the Council to work out a comprehensive plan for permanent ' beautification of the City. Moved by Councilmar. Chester, seconded Petition referred by Councilman Arnold that this petition to the Planning be referred to the Planning Commission Commission. to be worked out with the aid of 'Mr. Putnam and their recommendations pre- sented to the City Council. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None.
