The City Council of the City of A zusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Roll call. Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr, City Attorney and City Clerk. The minutes of the last regular meeting Minutes approved. of January 18, 1937 were read and approved as read. ' Councilman Chester reported that due to Councilman Chester illness and cold weather, he had not had reported on WPA time to investigate the proposed WPA Project. Project, but would be prepared to report on same at the next regular meeting of the Council. A communication from the Azusa Planning Communication from Commission relative to the erection of Azusa City Planning various buildings, under the supervision Commission, read of the Building Inspector, was read. and ordered placed on file. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman McIntire that this report be accepted and placed on file. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Communications from the League of Calif- Communications ornia Municipalities, Senators Hiram ordered placed on Johnson and William Gibbs McAdoo and file. Secretary of the Azusa Chamber of Commerce ' were read and ordered placed on file. A communication from the State Compensation Insurance Fund refecting Liability on Walter Lovelace's disability, was read. Moved and carried that same be placed on Communication file. ordered placed on file. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Chester that the City Clerk be instructed to write Mr. Lovelace informing Patrolman Lovelace him that due to his long years of service, carried on pay roll he has been carried on the City pay roll, until the 15th of and will be, until the 15th day of Feb- February, 1937. ruary, 1937; also that the City Clerk be authorized and instructed to mail Mr. Lovelace the three pay roll checks now due him and to notify him that his re- instatement will be considered by the Council when he is able to return for service. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman McIntire that the Business and Professional Women's Club be granted per- mission to use the Auditorium on Tuesday, February 2, 1937. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded Minutes of January by Councilman Arnold that the motion made 18, relative to Dr. on January 18, 1937 relative to Dr. Brooks Brooks rescinded. is hereby rescinded and that the City Council approve the granting of a business license from July 1, 1936 to June 30, 1937 to Dr. Brooks and accepts his payment of $12.00 therefor. Councilman Strohmeier offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA EMPLOYING FAY STRESHLY AS REVENUE COLLECTOR FOR THE LIGHT AND WATER DEPARTMENT; EMPLOYING IRA R. CALVERT AS ASSISTANT REV- ENUE COLLECTOR FOR THE LIGHT AND WATER DEP- ARTMENT; EMPLOYING WM. F. ZERELL AS ASSIST- ANT SUPERINTENDENT OF THE LIGHT AND WATER ' DEPARTMENT AND FIXING THEIR SALARY OR COM- PENSATION. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Chester that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1514. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. 6,9 Paul E. Smith made license collector. Blanks for the Building Inspector referred to the City Attorney. Executive session. RESOLUTION NO. 1514 ADOPTED. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Chester that Patrolman Smith be assigned exclusively to the collection of business licenses, dog licenses and other licenses; also to act as Pound Master and be not assigned to Patrol duty until further orders of the Council, but to retain his nosition as Police Officer, effective February 3, 1937. Mr. Smith is to be notified that he submit to the Council a written monthly report of licen- ses collected, contacts made, dogs destroy- ed and any other information necessary to make his reports clear. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that the matter of printed forms for use in giving notice of condemnation of property, by the Building Inspector, be referred to the City Attorney. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Arnold that the Council ad- journ to go into executive session for 15 minutes. ZERELL AS ASSIST- ANT SUPERINTENDENT OF THE LIGHT AND WATER ' DEPARTMENT AND FIXING THEIR SALARY OR COM- PENSATION. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Chester that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1514. Councilman Chester offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA EMPLOYING FRED WILLIAMS AS PATROLMAN AND FIXING HIS SALARY OR COM- PENSATION. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution ' 1515. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Chester that the City Clerk be authorized and instructed to draw a warrant on the General Fund in favor of Lee V. Rhodes in the amount of $70.00, representing a two weeks vacation for the year 1937. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. James Rogers, Jr. reported that the Fire Hall roof continues to leak and the fire truck is in need of a general overhauling: Street Superintendent Wolfe reported that the residents in the south part of town were causing considerable trouble by driving over the curb and that he would like to have written forms to be filled out where a permit is given to break the curb. No action taken. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman McIntire that the following Requisitions be allowed: 1655-1656-1657- 1658-1659-1660-1661-1662-1663-1664. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None.- Absent: None. 71 7:30 P. M. Resolution No. 1515 Adopted. Lee Rhodes granted two weeks vacation with pay. James Rogers, Jr. reported on Fire Hall and Fire Truck. Street.Superintendent reported on curbs. Requisitions.
