The City Council of the City of Azusa
met in regular session at the above
time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen:
Roll call.
Strohmeier, McIntire, Chester, Carr,
City Clerk.
Absent: Councilman Arnold and City
Attorney.
The minutes of the last regular meeting

A communication from Joe Aguirre, re-
questing permission to remove a Mulbury
tree from the parkway in front of his

A communication from Wm. Pearson, re-
questing permission to operate a stable
of 12 saddle horses at 824 Pasadena

by Councilman Chester that this matter
be referred to the City Planning Commission.

Councilman Arnold entered the meeting and
took his seat at the Council table.
A communication from the City Planning Mrs. Montez request

A communication from City Attorney Miller City Attorney
asking the Council to excuse him as he Miller excused.

by Councilman McIntire that City Attorney
Miller be excused from attending,the Coun-
cil meeting of February 15, 1937.

Council:

Arnold, Chester, Carr.

A communication from Cornelius Smith,
Secretary of the City Planning Commission,
relative to the petition presented to the
Council in January by C. H. Putnam, ask-
ing the City to work out a comprehensive
plan for the beautification of City streets,
was read.
Councilman Chester reported that he had
investigated the WPA Project with regard
to improving the City park. He learned
that the Government mould pay 15dj'� and the
City would have 855 of the material cost.
That the men who would be employed to do
the work would not be all local men and
that in his opinion the City would be
money ahead to carry out the project with-
out WPA assistance.
Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by
Councilman Strohmeier that One Thousand
Dollars be transferred from the Light
Fund to establish a Special Park Improve-
ment Fund of a permanent nature as a
nucleus for a 'Special Park Improvement
Fund, which may be adned to from time to
time as the financial condition of the

A communication from the Secretary of the
Chamber of Commerce, Cornelius Smith, re-
questing the Council to be present at a
meeting on the 19th day of February, 1937
to formulate -plans for the 50th Anniver-
sary of the City of Azusa.
Moved and carried that same be placed on
file.
Three applications for employment in the
Police Department were offered by William
Henry Rury, Otis M. Martin and A. J.
Ashurst.
Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by
Councilman Arnold that the applications
be placed on file.
Carried by the following vote of the
Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire,

Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by
Councilman Strohmeier that Dr. Sandoval
be granted permission to use the Auditor-
ium on February 19, 1937, and Fred Stone
permission to use the Auditorium on March
3rd.

Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by
Councilman Arnold that Henry Williams be
employed to assist in the work of the
Assessor for a period of not more than
six weeks at a salary of $5.00 per day.
Carried by the following vote of the
Council:

Arnold, Chesta, Carr.

' Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by
Councilman Strohmeier that Owens Vosburg
Insurance Agency be granted permission to
include coverage for the 24 Marbelite
Electrolier Standards situated in Tract
8161 in the Agricultural Insurance Company
policy on a basis of figures submitted to
the Council by H. V. Omens, provided that
the premium is approximately the same as
that previously paid to Armstrong & Sons.

Arnold,"Chester, Carr.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
Mr. C. V. Turvey addressed the Council
and introduced Mr. Chambers, the local
supervisor for the WPA Project of Re-
creation Camps and Play Grounds. He
explained that they wished to use the
Auditorium for projects such.as tap
dancing, basket weaving, etc., where
the adults could be taught organized re-
creation.
' Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded. by
Councilman Strohmeier that the Mayor appoint
a committee to investigate this particular
project with power to act.
Carried by the following vote of the
Council:

Arnold, Chester, Carr.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
Mayor Carr appointed Councilmen Chester,
Arnold and Strohmeier to act on this
committee.
Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by
Councilman Arnold that the City Clerk be
authorized and instructed to draw a check
on the General Fund in the amount of
$10.00 made payable to Mrs. Nettie L.
Dingman to be used in the case of Angela
Arias Martinez.
Carried by the following vote of the
Council:

Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by
Councilman Strohmeier that the Street
Superintendent be authorized and instruct-
ed to pave drive,+rays for Adolph Weber and
Mr. Nathan, the same to reimburse the
City.
