RESOLUTION NO. 7430
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF AZUSA AMENDING THE JOB SPECIFI-
CATIONS FOR POLICE CADET.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DOES HEREBY
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The job specifications for the classification
of Police Cadet are hereby amended to read in accordance with
Exhibit A attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference.
SECTION 2. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this Resolution.
ADOPTED AND APPROVED THIS 21st day of February, 1984.

meeting hereof held on the 23st day of February, 1984, by the

JOB SUMMARY
Date adopted:
Under close supervision, works as a police officer trainee
performing assigned duties at the reception desk, dispatch
office, Records Bureau, city jail, evidence control, and in
the field.
Representative Duties
As assigned to the reception desk, greets citizens at the
counter and makes necessary referrals to divisions and
personnel within the department, and provides advice as
needed. The cadet shall be knowledgeable about city govern-
ment and facilities so that he can give information on
various services and facilities provided -or available. The
police cadet shall be required to take minor reports at
the reception desk and, at times, in the field, such as petty
thefts, burglaries, stolen and found bikes, lost or found
property, supplemental reports, etc. He/she shall also be
required to fingerprint ciN,iilians as required.
As assigned to dispatcher duties, required to work in a relief
capacity as communications dispatcher during breaks and lunch
periods or to cover shifts for dispatchers who are off ill, on
vacation, or CTO. When working in dispatch, the cadet will be
required to handle incoming telephone calls for police and fire,
dispatch emergency vehicles as needed, maintain the desk log,
conduct want and warrant checks, and other related duties. The
cadet will be trained in the proper usage of radio and tele-
phone equipment and in the use of teletype machines and computer
terminals.
As assigned to Records Bureau, required to run record checks,
perform various filing duties, drop off and pick up papers
and forms from various agencies, maintain police automotive
equipment as directed, assist in compiling and tabulating
statistical data, perform clerical work as required.
As assigned to jail function, will handle bail posts, both
cash and bond, handle booking of prisoners and processing of
prisoners by taking fingerprints and photographs, serve
prisoner meals, maintain inventory of processed prisoner
meals, conduct hourly jail checks, and take trustees shopping
on a weekly basis. When assigned to day or swing shift, cadets
may be required to perform supervision of the trustees in the
maintenance of the police facility and surrounding grounds.

As assigned to patrol function, will work various duties as
pertains to enforcement of Azusa Municipal Code violations,
which include report writing, photographing, issuance of
citations, and collection of evidence. Cadets may perform
code enforcement for parking violations. Cadets may be
required to assist officers in field investigations, crime
scene searches, and collection of evidence. May be re-
quired to serve subpoenas to civilian witnesses and victims.
Cadets will pick up found bicycles and prepare necessary
reports on assignment from the dispatcher. Cadets, when
assigned to early morning watch, shall pick up the department
mail and deliver it to the Chief's office by 0700 hours.
Cadets shall be assigned to make checks on residences and
businesses of citizens who are on vacation. Cadets may be
assigned to maintain the pin maps in the department training
room and to maintain the wanted persons bulletin board and
teletype boards on a daily basis.
As assigned to evidence control, may be assigned to assist in
maintaining evidence storage areas and will be responsible
for showing and releasing bicycles to citizens at the police
station. Cadets will pick up and maintain stock of needed
materials used for the collection and preservation of evidence
which includes blood and urine vials, narcotic evidence
envelopes, rape kits, etc.
Cadets will also check and maintain the room and various file
cabinets used to store and keep the various forms used by
officers in the performance of their duties.
Organizational Responsibilities
A police cadet is an employee -trainee class in the Police
Department assigned to perform various duties in all facets
of police work and related duties while training for the
position of police officer. Employment in this class is
for a limited duration, and employment will terminate on
or before the employee's 22nd birthday.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Successful completion of the required four-year high school
curriculum resulting in high school graduation.
After appointment, an employee shall attend college -level classes
and satisfactorily complete a minimum of three units of study per
semester towards accrual of 15 college semester units as required
for appointment to classification of Police Officer

Knowledge and Abilities
A high degree of general intelligence, verbal facility, memory,
and adaptability are required of all police cadets.
Ability to learn departmental policies, rules, instructions, laws,
regulations, and police literature, together with an aptitude for
law enforcement work; analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective,
and reasonable course of action; write clear and accurate reports; use
good English and a good vocabulary; understand and follow oral direc-
tions; learn the use and care of automobiles and small firearms; meet
weight, height, and other physical endurance and agility requirements.
Keen observation and ability to remember names, faces, and details
of incidents.

Minimum Physical Requirements
Height -Weight Relationship: There are no minimum or maximum
height requirements, but the height-weight relationship for each
applicant must either (1) fall within the ranges in the following
table, or (2) if the applicant's height is not included in the
table, be found to be acceptable after individdal evaluation.
Height measurements are made without shoes, and weight measure-
ments without shoes and coat. Applicants whose height falls
between any of the measurements shown on the table must meet the
weight requirements of the lower height.

2. Age: 18 -19� years of age at time of appointment
3. Hearing: Ability to pass a closed booth.audiogram examination
at a minimum of 25 decibels and discern a whisper
at 15 feet.
4. Vision: Normal visual function and acuity, not less than 20/70
in each eye without correction and corrected to 20/20
in each eye with normal color vision.
Citizenship
Must fulfill the United States citizenship requirements
for Police Officer in accordance with Section 1031.5 of the
Government Code.
Must be free from felony convictions.
