A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF AZUSA AMENDING THE JOB SPECIFICATIONS
FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING ASSISTANT
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The Job specifications for the classifica-
tion of Civil Engineering Assistant are hereby amended to read in
accordance with Exhibit A attached hereto and incorporated herein
by reference.
SECTION 2. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately.
SECTION 3 The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this Resolution.
ADOPTED AND APPROVED THIS 6th day of February, 1984.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was duly
adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular
meeting hereof held on the 6th day of February, 1984, by the

JOB SUMMARY
Under direction - performs professional engineering work in gathering and compiling data
and preparing and checking designs, plans, details, estimates, reports, and specifications
for the construction, alteration, maintenance, and operation of a wide variety of public
works projects and City buildings and structures; and does related work as required.
Representative Duties
Prepares designs and plans for public improvements such as street paving, curbs and gutters,
sewers, storm drains, reservoirs, pumping plants, control boxes, water distribution system
mains, culverts, street widenings, traffic signals, sidewalks, bridges, and ornamental street
lights; prepares designs for new City buildings or the remodeling of existing structures;
plots levels and topography from existing maps and field notes; estimates and calculates
cross sections and quantities; determines typical sections for street, sewer, and drainage
projects; estimates project costs; prepares specifications and contract documents; prepares
property assessment maps for projects; performs field surveys and establishes line grade and
other related surveying activities; determines that all calculations submitted are correct and
that engineering design work conforms to City specifications; writes legal descriptions for
annexations, streets, alleys, leases, easements, and City property acquisitions, and pre-
pares necessary maps; draws contour and topographic maps; makes proposed street alignment
studies; provides engineering information to contractors, engineers, and members of the
public; calculates permit costs for public works construction.
Organizational Responsibilities
Civil Engineering Assistant is the first level of professional engineer in the City Engineer-
ing Department. An employee in this class may supervise sub -professional engineering
personnel as required, and reports to a Civil Engineering Associate or similar level employee.
In addition to usual engineering responsibilities for this class, special responsibilities are
required in the design of municipal buildings.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Training and Experience
A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, and three years of civil engineering experience.
Additional professional experience may be substituted for two years of the required educa-
tion, on the basis of two years of experience equaling one year of the required education.
Knowledges and Abilities
Good knowledge of the principles of civil engineering and engineering mathematics;
the principles and practice of engineering drafting and of the source of engineering infor-
mation. Some knowledge of plane surveying methods and procedures.

Ability to apply engineering principles to the solution of specific problems; read and
utilize field notes in the preparation of mops and plans; use drafting instructions and
techniques in the preparation of maps, plans, profiles, and similar drawings, follow
written and oral instructions; deal tactfully and effectively with others; write technical
reports.
Licenses - California Driver License
A salary differential may be authorized for incumbent employees obtaining the follow-
ing certificates issued by the State of California, Board of Registration for Professional
Engineers or State Board of Architectural Examiners:
Engineer -In -Training (EIT) - 1 Range (Approx. 5%)
Registered Building Designer - 1 Range (Approx. 5%)
Registered Civil Engineer - 2 Ranges (Approx. 10%)
