The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular adjourned session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr, City Attorney and City Clerk. City Engineer Paul Kressly discussed, with the Council, the plans for opening Vernon _ Avenue from Ninth Street south to Foothill Boulevard, making this street 572 feet wide. The 50 feet in width to be an easement from the Pacific Electric Land Company and 72 feet from the Azusa Foothill Citrus Company. The matter of a crossing over the Pacific Electric tracks to be taken up with the Railroad Commission by City Engineer Kressly. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Arnold that the Chair appoint a committee to investigate the purchase of a lot 50.14 feet by 157.29 feet owned by Antonio Nunez, lying south of the Pacific Electric tracks, and be given power to take an option on same at a price considered right by the committee. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mayor Carr then appointed Councilman Chester a committee of one to make this investigation. ' The matter of securing WPA labor to improve the park was discussed with Mr. Kressly. No action taken. The matter of recalling five $1000. Bonds, issued under the 1915 Bond Act, was discussed. No action taken. The Council considered the purchase of a motor cycle but no action was taken. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Chester that the matter of Fred Frye's telephone and Mrs. Aguilar's salary be taken up at the next regular meeting of the Council. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Fred C. Stone offered his resignation as manager of the Slauson Memorial Plunge. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by ' Councilman Strohmeier that this resignation be accepted and placed on file. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. An application for the position vacated by Fred C. Stone, was offered by J. F. Stringfellow. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that Mr. Stringfellow be appointed to fill the office vacated by Mr. Stone. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Roll call. Mr. Kressly explained matters pertaining to opening of Vernon Avenue. Chair to appoint a committee to investigate the purchase of property owned by Mr. Nunez. Councilman Chester appointed a committee of one. Matter of recalling Bonds discussed. No action taken on the purchase of a motor cycle. Matter of Fred Frye's telephone and Mrs. Aguilar's salary referred until the next regular meeting. Fred Stone's resignation accepted. J. F. Stringfellow's application read.
