The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr,, City Attorney and City Clerk. The minutes of the last regular meeting of April 5 and the adjourned meeting of April 14, 1937 were read and approved as read. A communication from B. J. Montague at 636 Azusa Avenue, requesting the Council to consider his restaurant for boarding prisoners, was read. Moved and carried that Mr. Montague's request be granted. A communication from J. L. Pomeroy, M. D. was read and ordered placed on file. A communication from the American Rubber Manufacturing Company and Bulletin #9 were read and ordered placed on file. A communication from Cornelius Smith, Secretary of the -Azusa Planning Commission, was read and ordered placed on file. Councilman Strohmeier offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO PUBLISH ' NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON THE REPORT AND RECOT81ENDATION OF THE CITY PLANNING C014MISSION OF THE CITY OF AZUSA RECOMMENDING AN AMEND- MENT OF SECTION 6 OF. ORDINANCE NUMBER 294 AND OF THE "MAP OF CITY OF AZUSA DESIGNATING VARIOUS ZONES DESCRIBED IRT ORDINANCE NO.294" ATTACHED TO SAID ORDINANCE. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman McIntire that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1522. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier,, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that the Council accept the recommendation made by the Planning Commission to deny the removal of trees from the parkway in front of property owned by Mrs. Winifred Hanes and Fiedel Luna. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, ' Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Chester that the Council accept the recommendation made by the Planning Commission to deny Mrs. Martinez' request to operate a restaurant at #301 Soldano Avenue as this property is located in the residential zone. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Roll call. Minutes approved. Mrs. Hanes and Fiedel Luna's requests to remove trees denied. Council accepted Planning Commission recommendations. 121 MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING. APRIL 19, 1937. 7:30 P. M. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Chester that the City of Azusa Fred Fryers install and pay the rental on a telephone telephone to be for the Building Inspector, Fred F. Frye, paid for by City. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen:- Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Chester offered a Resolution ' entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE RESOLUTION NO. 1523 CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIF- ADOPTED. ORNIA APPOINTING ELENA AGUILAR AS POLICE 110IdAN AND FIXING HER COMPENSATION. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Chester that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1523. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent; None. A communication signed by Paul E. Nunez, Antonio Nunez. Councilman Chester stated that during the interview with Mr. Nunez he learned that someone had proceeded him, giving Mr. Nunez the information that the City wished to open Vernon Avenue from Ninth Street to the Boulevard and that he was not at all anxious to sell. The price Mr. Nunez placed on his lot was one thousand dollars. Councilman Chester reported that he felt he was not getting anywhere and wished to be released from serving on the committee. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Chester Councilman Strohmeier that Councilman released. Chester be released from serving on the committee. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Chester not voting.
