HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 76870 0 RESOLUTION NO. 7687 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS BY THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL TO COMBAT DRINKING AND DRIVING BY THE YOUTH. WHEREAS, this year the California Highway Patrol is placing an increased emphasis on the seriousness of drinking and driving among graduating high school, college, and young drivers in general, by waging a major anti-DUI(driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs) campaign, and WHEREAS, the use of alcohol and/or drugs in the age group of 16-25 is a major problem. Forty-four percent of all fatal alcohol and/or drug related accidents that occur at night involve drivers in that age group. The bottom line is that each 8,000 teens and young adults are killed and over 40,000 are injured in drinking and driving accidents, and WHEREAS, the California Highway Patrol, in an effort to reduce the large number of teen-age injuries and deaths attributed to drinking and driving, is again, making officers available to various schools in the San Gabriel Valley to conduct "rap sessions" with the students and discuss the problems with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. A film for showing in the class- rooms and hand-out pamphlets are available. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, recognizing the life affirming theme, behind this program, vigorously supports these efforts by the California Highway Patrol in attempting to combat alcoholic abuse during the graduation celebrations in the time of late May and early June by young people. ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 15th day of April, 1985. I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular meeting thereof, held on the 15th day of April, 1985, by the following vote of the Council: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: CRUZ, COOK, CAMARENA, LATTA, MOSES NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE
