A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF AZUSA SUPPORTING REGUL-
ATION 6.
WHEREAS, the South Coast Air Basin suffers from severe
air pollution problems; and
WHEREAS, more than 50% of the Basin's air contaminants
come from motor vehicles; and
WHEREAS, improved traffic flow and reductions in vehicle
use can cause a measurable effect on air quality; and
WHEREAS, ridesharing is one means to achieve a reduction
in vehicle use, and
WHEREAS, ridesharing enables individuals to reduce gas
consumption, avoid traffic congestion, decrease air pollution, and
save from $500 to $2,000 annually in commuting costs; and
WHEREAS, without ridesharing measures, future air poll-
ution controls necessary to comply with the federal Clean Air Act
will be imposed; and
WHEREAS, Regulation 6 is a newly proposed regulation
now under consideration by the South Coast Air Quality Management
District which requires major employers in the South Coast Air Basin
to offer ridesharing incentives to their employees; and
WHEREAS, the City of Azusa recognizes the need for Regu-
lation 6 in order to ease traffic congestion and improve air quality.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Azusa,
hereby supports the concept of Regulation 6, and urges the South
Coast Air Quality Management District Board to adopt this Regulation.
ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 21st day of January, 1985.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly
adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular meeting
thereof, held on the 21st day of January, 1985, by the following vote
