Present at roll call: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr, City Clerk. Absent: City Attorney, The minutes of the last regular meeting of May 3rd and the regular adjourned meeting of May 7, 1937 were read and approved as read. City Attorney Miller entered the meeting and took his seat at the Council table. Mr. Wixon addressed the Council relative to a petition submitted to the Council on March 15, 1937, requesting a parking lot be pre- pared just south of the Standard Oil Station. A communication from Leland S. Poage request- ing permission to erect a rock crusher on his property located just north of Broadway Road and south of the Azusa Rock and Sand Company.property, was read. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that this request be referred to the Planning Commission to report back. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication from H. V. Oviens requesting the privilege of renewing the Fire Insurance policy on the American Legion Club House, which expires June 2, 1937, was read. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that the City Clerk be instructed and authorized to request Joseph C. Muehe to renew said policy. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication signed by H. H. Nathan E. Van Vliet, Ted Harnden and T. S. Oki requesting permission to sell fire works on July 5th. 1937 as long as July 4th falls on a Sunday. No action taken. An invitation to send representatives to the opening of the San Francisco Bay bridge on May 27, 1937, was read. No action taken. A petition signed by Fred B. Jenkins, Louis Zatinsky, John Catino, J. H. Jones and J. C. Tipton, petitioning the Council to take necessary steps to reduce the speed limits or. West Foothill Boulevard to twenty or twenty-five miles per hour, also requesting the Council to take measures to supervise and control the operation of vehicles so that the speed will conform with the new regulat- ions. was offered. 135 7:30 P. M. Roll call. Minutes approved, Mr. Wixon addressed the Council. Leland Poage's request to operate a rock crusher referred to the City Planning Commission, Communication from H. V. Owens filed. J. C. Muehe to renew Fire Insurance polio Communication on sale of fire works filed. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Chester that this matter be referred to the City Attorney to work in conjunction with the Chief of Police and report back at the next regular meeting. ' A communication from Cornelius Smith relative to the establishment of a hog ranch was read and ordered placed on file. League of California Bulletins #12 and 13 were read and ordered placed on file. Councilman Strohmeier offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COMITY, CALIFORNIA, APPOINTING J. F. STRINGFELLOW AS MANAGER OF THE SLAUSON MEMORIAL PLUNGE AND FIXING HIS COMPENSATION. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman McIntire that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1527. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. ' Councilman Arnold offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF A POR- TION OF BLOCK "K" OF AZUSA HEIGHTS TRACT, CITY OF AZUSA, FROM ANTONIO R. NUNEZ AND ESQUIPULA C. DE NUNEZ, AND DIRECTING THAT THE DEED TO SAID PROPERTY BE ACCEPTED BY THE CITY. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by 6ouncilman Strohmeier that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1526. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr, Noes: None. Absent: None. The Mayor announced that this is the time and place set for hearing protests and taking final action upon the report of the City Planning Commission recommending that the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Azusa known ' as Ordinance No. 294 be amended to show that the property hereinafter described be class- ified and designated as property constituting a Zone M-2 Light Industrial District as the 137 7:30 P. Lots 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 of Block 84 as per map recorded in Book 15 at pages 93 to 96 inclusive of Miscellaneous Records of Los Angeles County, California: also a portion of Lot 86 of Subdivision No. 2 Azusa Land and Water Company as per Map recorded in Book 43 at page 94 of Miscellaneous Records of Los Angeles County, California, which portion is described as follows. viz; beginning at the North West corner of Lot 86 as aforesaid; thence Southerly along the Westerly line of said Lot 420 feet, more or less, to the Southeast corner of Lot 6 in Block 84; thence Easterly and parallel to the South line of 138 r 1 139 MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCI. Councilman Strohmeier offered an Ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 6 OF ORDINANCE Ordinance read for NO. 294 OF THE CITY OF AZUSA ENTITLED "AN first time. ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT IN THE CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, OF FOUR ZONES, CONSISTING OF VARIOUS DISTRICTS AND PRESCRIB- ING THE CLASSES OF BUILDINGS, STRUCTURES AND IMPROVEI,TENTS IN SAID SEVERAL ZONES AND THE USES THEREOF, AND PRESCRIBING THE PENALTY FOR VIOLATION OF THE PROVISIONS THEREOF" ADOPTED AUGUST 3, 1931, AND BY ADDING THERETO A NEW SECTION ENTITLED SECTION 6-C. to be read for the first time. This Ordinance was then read. ' Councilman Arnold offered an Ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AZUSA LICENSING ORDINANCE NO. 326 FOR THE PURPOSE OF REVENUE AND REGULATION, ADOPTED ALL AND EACH KIND OF BUSINESS CARRIED ON IN SAID CITY; PRESCRIBING THE PENALTY FOR VIOLATIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE, AND REPEALING AS OF JULY 1, 1937, ORDINANCE NO. 2849 ORDINANCE NO. 290, ORDINANCE NO. 310, ORDINANCE NO. 315 AND ALL OTHER ORDINANCES OF PARTS OF ORDINANCES INSOFAR ONLY AS ANY OF THE PROVISIONS OF SAME CONFLICT HEREWITH. to be placed upon its second reading. This Ordinance was then read for the second time. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman McIntire that the Ordinance be adopted as read and numbered Ordinance No. 326. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr, Noes: None. Absent: None. Marion F. Moya addressed the Council request- Marion F. Moya's ing permission to open a cafe and beer parlor request to operate at 222 W. Foothill Boulevard, a beer parlor grant- ed. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Arnold that permission be granted. Carried by the following vote of the Council; Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester. Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Strohmeier introduced the matter City Clerk instructs of water coolers for the Light and Water also to secure bids on Clerk's office.
