RESOLUTION NO. 7830
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA ESTABLISHING A NEW POSITION OF ENGINEERING
AIDE AND ESTABLISHING A SALARY THEREFOR.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The class specifications of Engineering Aide
are hereby adopted in its entirety in accordance with Exhibit A
attached and incorporated herein by reference.
SECTION 2. The salary range for Engineering Aide shall
be Range 171, $1643.52 to $1997.71 per month.
ADOPTED AND APPROVED THIS 16th day of December, 1985.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly
adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular
meeting thereof on the 16th day of December, 1985, by the following

Under supervision, performs a variety of para -professional and technical
drafting, office and field engineering work, and to do related work as
required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class work under general supervision and are expected to
perform moderately complex procedures in carrying out a variety of
drafting, office, and field engineering work. Work in this class is
distinguished by the technical complexity of the engineering assignments
received and by the greater independence with which an incumbent is expected
to operate.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Layout and calculate quantities and cost estimates for public works
construction projects.
Locate utilities, easements, property lines and other information on plans.
Prepare details of construction features and alignment and, using various
mathematical calculations, determine cut and fill requirements.
Prepare estimates of costs and materials.
Maintain map record files of properties, utilities and improvements.
Make field checks of project sites or survey areas to become familiar with
features or to verify survey results.
Check and update as built drawings.
Collect, tabulate, and analyze traffic information; assist in the
development of striping, signing, and detour plans; respond to and resolve
a variety of traffic related requests for service.
Ink, trace, and letter charts, graphs, maps, plans and other drawings;
prepare miscellaneous illustrative materials such as charts and graphs.
Prepare drawings of existing improvements, right-of-ways and other
utilities using field notes, maps, and photographs; check calculations used
in designs and estimates.

Assist in measuring accurate distances to be used in the determination of
locations of boundaries, easements, improvements, structures and topographic
features.
Place level rod for setting grade stakes and sights for measuring angles
and setting points on line.
Set and mark monuments and stakes and recovers buried monuments.
Operates transits and theodolites with speed and accuracy in making
observations to determine angles and levels in making observations to
determine precise elevations.
Make basic mathematical calculations related to surveying.
Keep survey truck clean and stocked with necessry tools and supplies.
Operate blueprint and copying machines.
Answer questions and provide information to the public concerning
engineering activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Terminology, methods, practices, and techniques of drafting.
Drafting nomenclature and symbols.
Trigonometry as applied to the computation of angles, areas,
distances, and traverses.
Surveying techniques and practices.
Engineering maps and records.
Ability to:
Read figures quickly and accurately and to make arithmetical
calculations.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions and sketches.
Use and care for drafting instruments.
Make mathematical engineering computations.
Perform engineering drafting work.
Reduce, interpret, and apply field notes in performance of drafting
duties.

Perform work with a minimum of supervision.
License
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the California
Department of Motor Vehicles.
Experience and Education
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could
likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education•
Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade including
or supplemented by courses in mathematics and
drafting.
Experience•
Two years of full-time work experience performing technical
drafting, office, and/or field engineering duties.
Sixty (60) semester of equivalent quarter units of college -
level coursework in Civil Engineering may qualify for
the work experience.
